10 favorite secondary characters

Hi friends,

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Today’s theme is: Favorite Secondary/Minor Characters.

Considering that I have difficulties to recall even the names of the main characters, this Top Ten Tuesday has been a bit of a challenge! I knew whose friend I wanted to feature but except for three of them whose names are widely known, I had to go and reread my reviews!

But here we are with my list of ten names!

The first names are: Manon Blackbeak from Throne of Glass (she is so badass and will choose her moral compass over her family’s brainwashing); Lehabah from Crescent City (that sprite had so much pride, loyalty and courage!) and Katrien Quillworthy from Sorcery of Thorns (I loved her fierce loyalty to Elisabeth, her cunning mind and mischievousness).

sorcery of Thorns covers with a girl with long flowing hair holding a sword, all on a dark green background with stylized roses.

Then we have Chen Kitay from the Poppy War (he had a brilliant mind and his devotion to Rin was unwavering to the end), Andarna from Fourth Wing (she is courageous and so sassy!) and Liathe from Empire of the Vampire (she is SO BADASS!).

Fourth Wing cover. Gold background with two dragons flying, one black and one gold within a circle of clouds.
Empire of the Vampire cover with a crest surrounded by fantastical beasts like wolves and bears. Above are armed angels.

I also adored Yrene Towers from Tower of Dawn (for her compassion and courage), Hermione Granger from Harry Potter (even if it’s bad manners to talks about that series now because of “she who shan’t be named” view on trans people, I still adore that series and Hermione was brilliant, courageous , loyal and cunning) and also Simon Lewis from City of Bones (Clary’s friend was ALWAYS there to protect and support her).

And last but not least, Sevro au Barca alias the Goblin from Red Rising. Darrow’s best friend was fierce, unhinged and always loyal!

Red Rising cover: a red wing on a black background.

Do we have some in common?

  1. Simon had some big story arcs. I never thought of him as a side character. I feel like Manon started out secondary and earned the readers’ adoration and a great storyline.
