Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme organized by Shanah @bionicbookworm where we get weekly topics to speak about and you know what?
This week Shanah has cheated!!!!! She gives us her top 10! Where has her restraint gone? Who are you and what have you done with Shanah???
So despite this evil alien impersonating Shanah I will give you all the reasons why and how you should read fantasy!
Are you a “non fantasy” reader so far? Yes? See if you fit the description below ….
– You’ve read non fiction or contemporary/historical fiction for all your life.
– You are down to earth and organized.
– You believe only what you see and love to control everything.
– You never have a bad hair day, you cook dishes to perfection, go to the gym to stay in good shape and watch documentaries.
On your craziest day you go for a pink lipstick or red fire engine tie but so far it’s been the most extravagant thing you’ve ever dared!
Yet one day, after chit chatting at the coffee machine with the artsy girl of the marketing department or with the geek IT prodigy you feel a perfume of adventure.
You come to the conclusion that your perfect life is boring!
Shocking wake up call!
As a leopard does not change its spots in one night you make a plan *of course duh!* and vow to spice up your life.
Baby steps for you the best way to dip your toes into the crazy pool will come through reading!
That’s decided you will read fantasy!
But what to read? You don’t want to be disappointed or lost or frightened *no spooky horror stories for you*or hurt or…
Baby steps!
Well lucky you mama Sophie, fantasy reads witch has the perfect list for you!
If under your plain, professional and neat clothes you secretly dream to kick asses *you know you’ve already slapped bitchy girl from accounting in the face or kicked sleazy boss in the nuts a hundred times in your head* then you should read:
Secondborn because Roselle will crunch your nose on the table blood gushing everywhere while munching her bland ration never stopping to chew! I want to be Roselle when I grow up!
A Throne of Glass because Celaena/Aelin is one hell of queen warrior. She kills with skills but her heart also bleeds every time she loses a friend or innocent people are hurt in the process. Beautiful and terrible Queen of a conquered kingdom, Terrasen, she’ll fight with all her might and tricks to free magic.
If you’ve always wanted a big family that would follow you on your crazy adventures *remember the time you climbed that tree just to save that poor cat who flew once you came close letting you stranded and in need of rescue?* then you should read:
The Dark Artifices by Casandra Clare because The Blackthorns are a tight knit family! So many side characters grow and evolve they can’t be considered as side characters any longer. Every Blackthorn and their “adopted” (Diana and Emma) or “collected” (Kit, Kieran, Christina) friends are main characters somehow. And that my friends make for a very vivid, enthralling story. Yepee!
What Cassandra Clare gives us is unique: a rich story evolving right alongside the protagonists, each having his/her own adventure and yet all moving seamlessly right alongside the others. They are a unit, limbs of the same body, united by a fierce love.
If you’ve always loved animals and wondered what it would feel to be a dog or a wolf and you’ve always wanted a bunch of diverse friends who would make you laugh with their antics then you should read:
Shadow Falls by CC Hunter because hot werewolves, sexy Fae boys, clumsy witches and so much more!
If you’ve always dreamed of joining a boarding school to make friends for life and meet crazy teachers you should read:
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Hot hot teachers and immediate bonding over life threat. Running inthe woods chasing or being chased by Strigois makes for memorable experience and insta friendship.
If you’ve always prayed for a love potion to use making the Uber cute coca cola guy fall in love with you I would recommend…
befriending Hermione Granger and read the Harry Potter series. Just know that some people have names you can’t utter for fear of impending doom.
If you are fed up with traffic jam, stalling cars and overcrowded buses try flying carpets.
Ask for advice to Shazi and read a superbly written persian tale with The Wrath and the Dawn series by Renee Ahdieh. Just work on your memory as you’ll have to give many tales to pass your exam.
If you dream of traveling by sea, meeting pirates and stopping curses then read The Dark of the Moon by ES Bell.
The plot was excellent filled with twists and turns, dangers, magic and a quest! I love quests. I love following the main character and looking after either an object, people or … Will they succeed or not? How? Avoiding many death traps?

I hope you enjoyed this post and now please would you give me your fantasy recs?
Thanks for reading!
I’ve tried reading fantasy, but most of it is set in medieval settings and I just ugh hate that setting so much! I do read other kinds of fantasy though 😀
However, every single day of mine is a bad hair day xD I was unfortunately born curly 😀
I love unusual fantasy like Senlin Ascends or I don’t know.. Anything steampunk, really. And of course, Harry Potter 😀 and I also love fantasy that meshes into scifi (it’s hard to draw the line).
Great post 🙂 lol, that address xDDDD
Hahaha sorry for your bad hair day Evelina 😉 And my son asked me if I had checked to see if the address did not exist in reality! I have read some steampunk but find that it’s not my favorite genre …
What a great way to introduce fantasy to a new reader! I love fantasy! My mom read us kids The Original Shannara Trilogy out loud. All your books cover different aspects of the genre. Urban Fantasy is a take off from fantasy and I love many series from this genre too. Excellent list Sophie! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much Dani!!!!!
Lovely pics! I’m a huge fantasy reader (contemporary is usually boring) but lately I’ve been interested in more contemporary? Who am I?
Hahaha I don’t know Sophia tastes change or sometimes you need something different for a while LOL
The Wrath and the Dawn is one of my favorite fantasy books. Glad to see it included!
Of course!!! Thanks Alicia 😉
This is such a great list. I actually do read fantasy but several titles you mentioned are still sitting on my shelf unread. I need to do something about that asap!
Thank you Suzanne!!!
Love this list! I think that I really need to get started on Lady Midnight after reading this! 🙂
Oh yes it is simply fabulous!!!
This is a great list! I loved Vampire Academy, Shadow Falls series, The Wrath and Dawn Duology, and THe Dark Of The Moon! I’ve read the first two books in TOG series and I really loved them. I’m planning to binge the whole series from the start. I’ve read the Secondborn but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped. I’m glad you loved it! 🙂
Thank you Raven! And preparing for Kingdom of Ash? 😉
Ahhhh what a fun post and what a great list! I love the wrath and the dawn so, so much and harry potter, obviously 😀 <3
Thank you so much Marie!!!
Fantastic picks! I agree with all of them 🙂
Thanks Jayati!!
I am a contemporary reader, who has actually read a bunch of those series. VA (and Bloodlines), ToG, TWatD, and anything Shadowhunters were all great for me. I think I struggle more in high fantasy, but adore magical realism to no end.
Haaaa magical realism yes! I fall for this one every time!
That’s a very interesting way to suggest books, Sophie! I loved those reasons you gave for reading every book and the story in the beginning
Thank you so much for the praise !!!
I love your taste in books! For real. I will add the ones I haven’t read to my TBR and I’m sure I will love them because I love the three on your list that I’ve read!!
Thanks for sharing!
Also, this is the most fun post! I love every bit about it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You are more than welcome Leetha Rose and thank YOU for commenting!
Oh, mighty high witch…I bow down to your blogging greatness, LOL!! Fun post Sophie!
Thank you Trisy for bowing down and commenting LOL
Haha, I love the title of this post. I agree with Harry Potter. That was one of the first fantasy books I read.
Thank you AJ and yes Harry is a MUST read 😉
That post title is hilarious. How could I not come and see what you are up to. LOL I’ve read all of these authors except for ES Bell. Which I shall remedy. I rarely read fantasy books anymore when I started blogging. Then I found so many great stories and I’ve never looked back!
Hahaha Laura the art of writing titles LOL I so understand why you never looked back because I didn’t either 😉
I looooove the title you gave this post! I laughed so hard :’) Wonderful choices!
Thank you so much Fleur!!!
Love your take on this topic. Hopefully those non-fantasy will venture out onto the wild side. 🙂
Bwahahahah Nicole thank you!
Dark of the Moon sounds fantastic! I hadn’t heard of it before but now I have to go check it out…
I hope you’ll love it Meaghan!!
Obviously I love your list – but that title!! I almost shot water out of my nose! I love that you took the chance to recommend fantasy to non fantasy readers who need their cherries popped 🙂 And such a unique way to recommend! You get an A+ and an XXX lol!!!
I thought you told me you would not drink anymore while reading my posts Shanah? LOL And thanks for the A+ Mistress Shanah ;-)))))
