Hello Ladies and Gents,
On this seventh day of All About Love I’m very happy to welcome another blogger Brittany at Perfectly Tolerable
She chose to speak about the love we can have for pets. As a dog owner I can really relate and I bet many of you would shed tears if something would happen to our beloved pet because our love for them is true!
Thank you Brittany!

What is Love? (Baby don’t hurt me!)
Sorry I couldn’t help myself 🙂
According to Merriam-Webster the definition of love is:
- Strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties
- Attraction based on sexual desire : affection and tenderness felt by lovers
- Affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests
It makes sense to me that there are multiple definitions of love because there are so many different kinds of love. You don’t love your brother the same way you love your boyfriend (at least I hope not).
Last night I was reading a book and the dog died. I won’t tell you which book because I don’t want to spoil anything, but it made me cry. It was really sad and it brought up all the memories of all the pets I’ve ever had. Today I can’t stop thinking about our relationship with our pets.
“There is no greater love than that of a boy and his dog”
My Fiance, David had a dog named Hurley. When I met David, Hurley was living with David’s Dad, because he couldn’t have dogs where he was living. When David moved in with me I refused to let him bring his dog. Hurley was super hyper and it would not have worked with my kitties. Plus Hurley had a good, happy home with David’s Dad. I also would not let David get a new dog. I like dogs but I didn’t want a dog.
In October we learned that Hurley needed to be put down. She was old and had lots of medical issues, and she was suffering. David was devastated. I did everything I could to help him, but I still underestimated how much it would affect him. Before it happened he played it off like it he was ok. But after it happened he cried. And then he got pissed that he was crying because he didn’t even cry when his Grandma died (He would kill me if he knew I told you this) Seeing him cry, my resolve broke. The next time he asked me about getting a dog I couldn’t tell him no anymore. Now we have a 4 month old puppy named Temperance.
David and Hurley’s love was unconditional. And as much as I didn’t want a dog, I love Temperance with all my heart.
“A girl’s love for her cat is just as great as a boy’s love for his dog”
Â
Ok, I know that isn’t a real quote, but “There is no greater love than that of a boy and his dog” is slightly sexist and very exclusive.
Growing up I have always had Cats. My parents got Ninja and Newton before I was born and I don’t know if I have actual memories of them, or if all my memories are constructed from seeing pictures. They passed away when I was really little. My first cat was Snip (named after the beanie baby) about a year later we got Daytona. They both passed away before I went to college. While I was in college my parents got two new cats, brothers, Koda and Blaster. My junior year of college I got Kaylee and then the next year I got Logan.
We always had cats in pairs of two. I never really thought about it before, but all 4 pairs of cats consisted of 1 feisty short-haired cat and 1 gentle long-haired cat. I know that its coincidental because I have friends who have cats that don’t fit those types, but all of my cat’s have fit that mold.
I still have Kaylee and Logan. They are 5 and 4 years old, respectively. Two nights ago Kaylee peed in the bathroom and on the bed. It was obvious something was wrong and that really freaked me out. I woke David up at midnight crying hysterically because I didn’t know what to do. (To his credit he did a really good job consoling me especially considering he had been asleep for at least 2 hours and had to get up in 5 hours.)
I know I over-reacted but it was late, and both Ninja and Snip had to be put down because of issues where peeing was a prominent symptom. (Ninja, Snip, and Kaylee are all feisty short-hairs) Kaylee peeing brought up all those memories. I was worried about her.
First thing yesterday morning I took Kaylee to the vet and they said she has Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. Basically its bladder inflammation. They gave me pain meds and antibiotics and sent a sample of urine to the lab to make sure nothing else is wrong. (I should get the results tomorrow) She should be okay.
Reading a book where the dog died yesterday meant that was two nights in a row I have had these memories drudged up. That is probably why I can’t stop thinking about it. I love my cats so much and would be so devastated if anything happened to them. (And David might deny it but he loves them too.)
“When we adopt a dog or any pet, we know it is going to end with us having to say goodbye, but we still do it. And we do it for a very good reason: They bring so much joy and optimism and happiness. They attack every moment of every day with that attitude.”
~Bruce Cameron
We love our pets. They are part of us. And they love us no matter what is going on in the outside world. Unfortunately they don’t live as long as us. So make sure they know you love them. Bring them home an extra treat or a new toy today and give them a giant hug.
Pets have more love and compassion in them than most humans.

About Brittany
Hi! I’m Brittany, and I am perfectly tolerable.  I am just your average-ish girl.  I play sports everyday of the week (softball, volleyball, and kickball) and in all my leftover free time I read a lot. (Normal right?)
Pride and Prejudice is my all time favorite book! Â And yes I know the title of my blog is a line from the movie not the book, but its close enough.
I decided to create a blog reviewing books.  After writing my first couple posts I began to notice my reviews are not, for a lack of a better word, “Professional”  By that I mean I add in way too many antidotes about myself, and treat the reviews more like a discussion that is loosely based on what I thought of the book.  I pretty much just start typing and it takes off on its own.  But thats okay, I like it and I am not going to change it!  So I hope you enjoy reading my reviews as much as I enjoyed writing them.  And if you don’t like my style there are plenty of other blogs out there I am sure you can find one you will like.
And you dear reader can you relate? Do you have pets you love?
Thanks for reading!
Sophie
I love this post. I have an almost 16 year old Jack Russell Terrier that we almost had to put down last November. I was able to get some surgery done on him and he is doing great now. I know he won’t be around forever, but I will cherish every day he is.
Oh yes enjoy him as long as you can because they are precious Carla!
What a super sweet post! Animals are like children…I have three cats and a Chihuahua and all of them are so LOVED!!
Oooh Trisy that’s incredible. Another pet lover. I think it says many things about someone who loves animals.
Very touching post…. now you have me thinking about my past fur friends.
Thanks <3
Thanks for Brittany Nina!!
