Today is Sunday time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week . I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly@caffeinatedreviewer .

In my private life

Happy Sunday!

No Sunday post last week as I spent the day with a friend doing yoga (in the morning) and Qigong in the afternoon. It was intense and the day after every muscle in my body was hurting!

My friend told me that Qigong is working on chakras and that some people cry when doing it. I didn’t but the day after I spent my time crying while being treated by my osteopath…go figure!

Work is still very busy but these last weeks what added to my burden is my 85 years old mom. She is feeling very anxious and is taking medicine for it. But that means that she is absorbed in her thoughts and not fit for driving. I had to ask her to stop driving for fear of her provoking an accident.

She fell (again) on Thursday while shopping with me and my daughter. No harm done but she had to sleep in my house so that I could observe her and check if nothing unusual manifested in her behavior.

I don’t relish taking care of her, not because I don’t love my mom, on the contrary, but because I am an only child and I am working far from my hometown. I don’t know how I would manage that. Sigh.

So let’s hope her mood improves and that without medicine to cloud her mind she will get all her abilities back.

With all that fuss and work, I had no time to blog hop and was barely posting last week. Oh well….

As usual I am leaving you with two reels.

The first is about people underestimating me

And the second is preparing for a book event.

Best reads of May 2025

I read 11 books in May and here are my three favorites (click on the graphic to read the post):

The Tainted Cup was everything the hype promised!

Dire Bound was the book I never expected but adored on the spot!

And Silver Elite had me reconciled with the dystopian genre.

Now I will go blog hop as I didn’t have time last week!

Thanks for reading.

  1. Taking care of an aging parent can be so tough, Sophie! But you are a good daughter to want the best for her, sometimes you just have to find the best balance between letting them keep their independence and their safety.

  2. I’m sorry to hear about your mom, Sophie! Hope she’ll feel better and back to normal soon.
I loved Direbound too (as you know :) ) and I’m hoping to read Silver Elite soon!

  3. Sorry to hear about your mom. I worry about my parents a lot, and they live a couple of hours away. I have never heard of Qigong before!

  4. Sorry to hear about your mom! It’s jarring to see them age. My dad, lucky for me at this point, married a younger woman after my mother passed away. She’s only 10 years older than I am so I don’t think I’ll have to worry about taking care of him. That’s a good thing since I live about 7 hours away from him now.

I loved The Tainted Cup, too!

  5. It’s hard. My Mom did almost everything for herself until she was 92 and broke her hip. Since then she has been in a nursing home. She had long term care insurance which makes it easier for us because she needs fairly constant care. She’s 98 next month.

  6. I’m sorry your mom has so much troubles these days. It’s not easy watching parents age, especially as an only child and nothing having siblings to help out. But I know you are strong and can do anything!!

  7. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, Sophie. I hope the medication helps your mom. My mom is in her late 70’s and, while she is still independent, she needs more and more assistance now and I see that only becoming greater in coming years. I imagine it is a struggle trying to juggle everything. I’m so glad to see you enjoyed The Tainted Cup. I loved that one too. I hope you have a good week, Sophie!

  8. I just got done being my mom’s caretaker after 6 1/2 years, so I feel ya! Luckily for me, the day I moved in with her she happily announced she was never driving again so there was no struggle with that. I know a lot of people have to wrestle their parents for the car keys. lol Not my mama. She was DONE. lol

Anyway, I hope your mom is doing well and will be more steady on her feet without the medicine or a different medicine or whatever the plan is.

    Hang in there!!!!!

  9. I feel you on taking care of aging parents. It’s hard work. I am glad your mom was not harmed during her fall though. I told my mother that she needs to go to chair yoga with our neighbor when she is out of the cast. Gotta work on the balance. You are doing your part for you kids with all your activities.
