Hi dear friends,
I am writing this post one day ahead as I will have a difficult day today but I so wanted to share with you my #BestBooksof2018 in contemporary because I loved these books so much!
Yes these you’ve read it right.
I could not choose only one winner today as both books are unique in their own way and deserve to be shouted about!
So without further ado let’s discover my winners today:
Sadie by Courtney Summer has a unique writing technique intertwining a podcast with Sadie’s point of view.
Sadie is the kind of story that you will remember years after because it is uncompromising, bleak, harsh yet feels so true.
These writing techniques made reading about horrifying, tragic past and current events bearable. It was like looking through a protective screen.
I realized everything that happened to Sadie and her sister had been horrible, painful, unbearable but could keep a protective shell around my emotions.
Sadie was a very courageous and tragic heroine. One that never had luck in her life.
She was tired. So tired. But she had a mission to accomplish. We will follow this brave and broken girl till the end of the story, wondering if this can have a happy ending or not.
― Sadie
Reading Shirin’s struggle was both heartbreaking, humbling and enlightening.
Tahere Mafi speaks with her heart to your soul.
She makes you see from the inside what it is to be hated by people who don’t even know you.
Shirin was brave and strong. So strong.
She never backed down . Wearing the scarf was her decision. No one coerced her. It would have been easy to take it off. She would not have been scared every day.
All the time.
But then they would have won.
This book is an open scream to the world.
A plea not to make amalgams.
A shout to never judge people without getting to know them first.
An ode to equal and fair treatment.
Now it’s your turn: what is or are your best contmporary book read in 2018?
Thanks for reading!
Great picks! =)
You know that I can not sing the praises of Sadie enough! I have to try out the other tho. Sounds amazing and I did read Shatter Me this year and loved it.
Mary
I hear only good things about Sadie, but I haven’t read it yet!! D: It will have to go down as one of the books I missed in 2018… and hopefully pick up in 2019?
Oh I hope you will Sha because it is truly unique!
Wonderful post! I’m dying to read Sadie! I’ve heard such great things about it, and think it’s right up my alley! <3
Oh yes Kelly I think you’d love it too!
Oh great choices! I’ve heard incredible things about Sadie, so happy you enjoyed it. I really want to read A Very Large Expanse of Sea as well, it sounds like a great read 🙂
Knowing your taste Marie I bet that you would love both!
Yay, Sadie 🙂 I’m very excited to read it next year.
The only other “podcast” book i read was Six Stories, so i’m curious.
I hope you will love it Norrie!
Oh I have heard so many great things about both these books, I cannot wait to read them! 🙂 My favorite contemporary this year has to be The Brightsiders & Saints and Misfits
Oooh I will have a look at these Caro!
I so agree with you Kayla!
I have to read both these books but hell Tareh Mafi is always a winner
Exactly Ari!
Day 7 was the hardest day yet for me! Contemporary is my #1 genre so narrowing it down to one was impossible. I managed to stick with six. LOL (Btw, love that Sadie graphic! Do you use Photoshop for your graphics? Or an app?)
Oh it is my drawing Tanya! I love drawing and the cover just inspired me! But my banners etc are made mostly thanks to phtoshop 😉
WHAT????!!! That is YOUR drawing? You created that?! Sophie, I am STUNNED! That is amazing! (And forgive my overuse of exclamation points but they’re necessary! LOL) I honestly thought it was a graphic from the author’s website that you tweaked. Or maybe some art from the blog tour. I am just floored that you created it. You are insanely talented, my friend! I’ve never asked what you do for a living but now I am guessing it is something creative. Are you a graphic artist?
I’ve heard so many good things about Mafi’s new novel. I will have to add it to my TBR. I loved Sadie so much, especially the way it was told. It was quite the compulsory read. Great picks!
Thank you Alicia!!!
I put Sadie in my Thriller/Dark category, but definitely needed to be mentioned, because it was really well written. I have been on the waitlist for Mafi’s book for eternity! I can’t wait to read it.
I hope you’ll get it soon Sam!
I would love to see these books!
I hope you will Jennifer!
These two books are on my tbr! I need to bump them up for next year 😀
hahaha #bloggerproblem Bea?
I totally agree with you on Sadie! That book was so good! I haven’t read Tahereh Mafi’s book but i’m planning to read it in Jan.
You will probably love it Raven!
I’ve not read either of these but I’d love too. You always steer me towards some good stories!
Well I am happy to know that I steer you in the “right” direction Laura!
I need to read Sadie, I’ve heard so much about it!
It is excellent and unique Jacquie!
Ha! Ha! Who wants one book when we can have two? Both very heartfelt sounding stories.
Oh yes Alexandra you could not say it better!
Sadie was such a good story!
