The bests cover

It’s been established a long time ago that I’m a cover junkie! Yes, yes I know “don’t judge a book by its cover” and all that jazz but really some covers are too pretty to resist!

Today’s rules don’t change: I must have actually read the book in 2017 and consider its cover among the prettiest.

I’ve already gushed over A Charm of Finches by Suanne Laqueur and all of Emma Scott’s books. They also have gorgeous covers but I want to make room for other authors too.

I have to keep you interested in this challenge right?

So here comes my selection of the day!

Corrode by Ella Field

Ella Field was a new author to me and she has some of the mots lovely covers! Just check her books on Goodreads and tell me they are not pretty.

Corrode was  4 stars for me.

Here is an excerpt of what I wrote:

It has loveable characters, a sexy hero dedicated to his woman, side characters good enough to add some color to the story, the right pace and some twists to keep you interetsed but not dying from angst.”

Paintbrush by Hannah Bucchin

This is a new YA author and she wrote a charming story! Her cover is to die for 😊

Well, this story is the epitome of charming. There is just this “little something” that kept me interested and immersed in this sweet story of coming of age.

Paintbrush is Hannah Bucchin’s first published work and I must confess I swooned over the pretty cover. I’m a cover junkie and this was the first trigger.

The second reason why I requested this book was the blurb. It mentioned “a commune full of colorful characters tucked in the mountains of North Carolina”. I love stories talking about tight knit communities and colorful characters. I can read books without big plot as long as the characters are so well portrayed and interesting that they are the stories. I also love “feel good” books from time to time. They give me hope and energy for days! Just to compensate for all the gloomy news we are drowned in every day.
I can now honestly say Paintbrush fit the bill to the T.”

King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard

4,5 stars and the 0,5 missing star is entirely Cal’s fault!

Here is an excerpt of what I wrote:

“Yes, yes, yesssssssss!

I’m so relieved after reading King’s Cage! I’m also frustrated and ready to throw a temper tantrum!

I’m relieved because I did not love Glass Sword as much as I loved Red Queen so I had so much hope but also so much fear concerning King’s Cage.

This third book is told only from female POV: Mare mainly, Cameron some and a little Evangeline. I’d like to hear Cal’s POV and especially Maven’s POV. They’re both flawed in their own ways. If I was able to better understand Maven through his conversations with Mare whereas Cal remains a deep mystery and I would love having his intake. Maybe I would be more indulgent with him? So far I find him meek and shallow, not the valiant knight in shining armor I want him to be.

What’s certain is that book made me feel many emotions; grief, sorrow, pain, fear, joy sometimes and disappointment in some characters. It’s never been boring the plot was solid as well as the character’s building.

Really well done Mrs Aveyard, you reconciled me with your series and I can’t wait to read the fourth book. Do you need beta readers? No? Editing job maybe? Still no? Damn! A girl can try… »
