This is the end ….

And that’s when I want to play Skyfall by Adele LOL

Last day of our Blogmas2019, daily posts and I did it alongside several of you! Lucy, Tanya, Em, Talia, HeroesinBooks, Lydia, Mae… thank you for playing with me!

Today is all about our past year. What does your year in books look like? Did you meet your challenges? Have you found a new genre to love? Began something new? How many books have you read?

Let’s see what Goodreads says about my life in books!

This year I have read 136 books so far! 36 more than my goal and more than I read in 2018 and 2017.

Here is a quick look (with a magnifier LOL) of all my reads and ratings

My average rating is 4,8.

Some will say that I am easy to please and …maybe! I like to think that I choose my books wisely and am rarely disappointed LOL

This year, two novelties: audiobooks and historical fiction!

I never listened to an audiobook in 2018 but I began with Becoming by Michelle Obama early january and it was a revelation! Since that book I have listened to 18 audiobooks and discovered an unthinkable love for …chores LOL. Every time I have to clean the house or the garden I listen to some story, making it so much more fun!

I tried to listen to romance, my favorite genre, in audiobooks but so far, The Girl He Used to Know aside, it’s been a failure! I love reading romance but listening to it makes me giggle…. I realized early on though that historical fiction was perfect for audiobooks!

And that’s the second change this year: I read historical fiction again!

I switch between Adult and YA/NA with 52 adult books and 84 young adult ones!

By genres, Adult and YA all together:

Historical Fiction = 11;

SciFi = 8;

Fantasy/PNR = 42;

Contemporary = 75.

But, but, ….am I still a romance blogger then? I dare say yes as 98% of these books had one or more love story. See?

Now do tell me how was your year in books? What does your 2019 challenge look like?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. When it comes to audio books, i have a very specific taste as well. Some of my faves just wouldn’t work. I like thrillers with limited characters, or a full cast story. πŸ™‚ So that it’s easy to follow.

  2. Way to crush your goal in 2019! And hooray for “discovering” audio books! I only started listening to audio books 3 years ago or so – after years of being a total purist and being convinced that that wasn’t *really* reading (with my nose up in the air LOL).

    1. It’s not that I was a purist Tanya but more that I thought it would maybe be too difficult for me as English is not my mother language. Turns out that no, that’s as easy as listening to French πŸ˜‰

  3. Congrats! I think it’s great that your average rating is that high! That is one of my goals every year to pick my books better so that I can reach at least an average 4 star rating.

  4. Looks like you had a great reading year and yay for so many 5 star reads! My average read was 4.0 stars but I was definitely better at picking books I ended up loving this year than I have been in the past.

  5. Happy New Year!!! Hope you have a beautiful year of 2020

    Looks like you did great with your reading goals for the year, I did horrible to be honest, half of what I wanted to. But life got in the way and I had almost six months of a major book slump. Thankfully I am over that now. I think its always good to choose wisely at times. Especially if you know your own reading tastes.

  6. Audiobooks are definitely a good way to make chores a little more doable. Funny, contemporary romance work the best for me in audio format. I struggle with fantasy and mysteries, because they tend to have more details to keep track of, and I am a visual learner. I am with you. My average rating is high, because I am good at picking books for myself, and I don’t rate DNFs (which would be below 3 stars for me)

    1. I don’t rate my rare DNF either Sam! Sometimes I write a few lines to explain why I DNFed and who might love it.

  7. Happy New Year! By the end of the day I will have read 285 according to GR, which is 35 more than my goal of 250. I had the goal set at 300 last year and scrambled to meet it so lowered it for this year. My average rating is skewed because I just realized GR rating system is different than other platforms where 2 = okay, 3 = liked it and I was giving 3’s to ones that were just okay. But oh well! I can’t wait to see what great books we all read next year! Thanks for sharing with us and continually adding to my TBR!

  8. Happy New Year’s Eve πŸ™‚ I made my goal. This is the second year I have done the Goodreads challenge and I exceeded both years. I increased the number this year. My goal was 200 and I’ve read 216. I think next year I’ll try for 225.
