Second Chance

We’ve had “new chance” as in widowed or divorced and now ‘second chance” meaning: going back to the same lover and beginning anew. Well this is another of my favorite tropes.

OK I hear you think “she has so many favorite tropes it’s laughable!”. Maybe but the truth is I love nearly everything as far as there is romance in it.

Of course I enjoy other books too (just read my review of Beartown) but romance is my main genre.

I want to feature books I haven’t spoken of yet today. Just to keep you on your toes and not bore you to death 😉

So let’s roll Ladies and Gents!

Greta and Elec in Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward

This book was a precursor! He launched the “stepbrother” hype.

Synopsis

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

Favorite quote:

“I know I’m not supposed to care. But when it comes to you, what I’m supposed to be feeling has never seemed to matter.”

Jake and Tru in The Mighty Storm by Samantha Towle

Synopsis

It’s been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.

Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of the biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.

Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another—Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.

Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can’t refuse—travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.

Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the world’s most notorious womanizer?

“You’re not just any girl. You’re my girl.”

Unfortunate timing, since Theresa is about to discover that she’s finally pregnant and Alessandro is about to discover that he isn’t willing to lose Theresa.

Favorite quote (I love when they grovel 😊):

“All the air suddenly seemed to leave his sails and his shoulders sagged as he dropped to his knees in front of her, bringing his eyes down to the same level as hers.”I want to be here with you. Why is that so hard for you to understand?”

Liam and Josie in Forever My Girl by Heidi Mclaughlin

Synopsis

I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.

I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.

And now I’m going back.

After ten years.

I hope I can explain that after all this time.

I still want her to be my forever girl.

Favorite quote (because I love declarations 😉):

“Josie Preston, I have loved you since I was sixteen. I know I’ve screwed up a whole lot, but I promise to make it up to you every day. Would you do me the immense honor of wearing my ring, taking my name and becoming not only my partner in life, but most importantly, my wife?”

Elizabeth and Christian in Take This Regret

My second AL Jackson!

There are some mistakes we make that we will regret for the rest of our lives. For Christian Davison, it was the day he betrayed Elizabeth Ayers. For five years, Christian has regretted the day he walked away from his family and will do anything to win them back. Can Elizabeth forgive someone who has committed the unforgiveable? Or are there some wounds that go so deep they can never heal?

Favorite quote (because I love kids in stories!):

“Daddy.
I was struck with the magnitude of what that meant, the responsibility of being a father. Waves of devotion swept through me as I silently promised her I would always be there for her, would always love her, would be the best father I could possibly be.”

Elin and Ty in Written in the Scars by Adriana Locke

Here is an excerpt of what I wrote about the book:

“Elin and Ty have been in love for a long time now. They are married but a tragedy hit Ty and he fled his home. Now he is back and wants to win Elin once more. But each has secrets they’re afraid or ashamed to tell the other.

This is in a nutshell the blurb of the book. As simple as it seems, it’s written in a very realistic fashion portraying characters hit by life in sensitive and gut wrenching way. Life is messy. Life is not for the faint of heart. Sometimes you’ll be overjoyed and other days overcome by grief and feelings of loss. This is what Adriana Locke has written about.
Being in a relationship even if you love the other is not always simple. You have to work for it. You have to communicate. You have to trust and rely on each other. Not run when life becomes very difficult or you’ll bear the consequences.

I was assaulted by many feelings but the sadness was one of the most potent ones in the last 15 to 20 percent of the book. Damn Cord, why did you have to do that!!! »

Favorite quote:

“You can’t expect a relationship to succeed based on the love you felt at the beginning. It succeeds because you continue to build on it until the end.”
