Book Couple Challenge Day 6
Today’s topic is conflict of interest.
Okaaaaay so how should I understand this? Is a taboo (teacher/student) a conflict of interest? Or is two rivals in different firms defending opposite clients the only interpretation? Because if it’s the last one I’m doomed!
So I will choose my own interpretation and will go with taboo and the likes.
Now that has been cleared let’s roll Ladies and Gents.
You know the drill by now (most of the time) several contenders and hopefully one winner!
Brad De Luca and Julia Campbell in Innocence series by Alessandra Torre
He is the star divorce attorney and she is the intern! So a big no no for the Big Bad Wolf. But of course the Little Red Riding Hood is too tempting LOL
Expect steam, lots and lots of steams. You won’t see through your windows anymore!
Synopsis
“I’m not sure what you have been told about me, but I’m not nearly as bad as they make me out to be.” His deliciously deep voice carried a little bit of ego.
I’m sure you are exactly as bad as they make you out to be….
Brad De Luca is used to getting whatever and whomever he wants. The premier divorce attorney in town, he’s a playboy who’s bedded half the city—including his own clients. And when the newest intern at his firm poses a challenge, his seductive prowess goes into overdrive.
Pre-law student Julia Campbell is fresh off a failed engagement and happy with her new independence. Even if she weren’t warned away from Brad at every turn, she’d know he was bad news. The last thing she needs is a man who could destroy her job prospects, not to mention her innocence. But before she knows it, the incorrigible charmer has her under his spell. His deviant tastes plunge her deep into a forbidden world of sexual exploration…but her heart may not survive the fall.”

Melody Greene and Jaime Followhill in Defy by L.J Shen
There are many books with student/teacher relationship (Loving Mr Daniel by Brittainy C Cherry, A Different Blue by Amy Harmon, etc.) but I had never featured this one before. As I love Leigh Shen this is my way of being grateful! This book is extra, extra hot!
What else could you expect coming from one of the Hotholes in the Sinners of Saint series?

Camille Logan and Jake Sharp in The Protector by Jodi Ellen Malpas
He is her bodyguard so of course there is a conflict of interest! How can he do his job properly and think with a level head when feelings come in the balance?
Synopsis
“People think they have Camille Logan nailed: daddy’s girl; beautiful, spoiled young woman with her father’s bank balance to fund her lifestyle. But Camille is determined to have a life free from his strings. Out on her own, she’s made mistakes, including one that found her clawing her way back after a stint in rehab and plenty of bad press. Now, after fighting so hard to be independent and happy, she finds her life threatened as a result of her father’s ruthless business dealings. Caught between resentment and fear, Camille prepares herself for the measures her father will take to protect her. But nothing could prepare her for the ex-SAS sniper who crashes into her life.
Jake Sharp resides in his own personal hell. He was distracted from duty once before, and the consequences were devastating–both personally and professionally. He vowed never to let that happen again. Accepting the job of bodyguard to Camille Logan isn’t the kind of distraction from his demons he should take. Women and Jake don’t mix well, yet protecting the heiress seems the lesser of two evils. But Jake soon discovers that she isn’t the woman she’s perceived to be. She’s warm, compassionate, her presence settling, and his duty to protect her soon goes deeper than a well-paid job, no matter how hard he fights it. He needs absolution. He comes to need Camille. But he knows he can’t have both.”
Favorite quote
“Don’t do anything stupid, Jake!”
I laugh to myself. Stupid? I’ve fallen in f@cking love. I couldn’t be any more stupid than that.”

Garret and Ella in Behind the Wall by Jane Harvey Berrick
Here is another teacher/student story but with the added “perk” that the student is in jail! Garret will fall for Ella and of course it’s strictly forbidden. This is a very short read that I loved reading while on holiday.
Synopsis
Prison.
The place where dreams fade and hope dies.
That’s what it’s meant for the five years that Garrett has been behind bars. But now hope is on the horizon and he’s daring to dream again: small dreams, small hopes.
Getting his GED would be a start. If only his prison-appointed teacher Miss Ella Newsome wasn’t so damn sexy.
As Garrett and Ella start to play a dangerous game, the price could be higher than either of them have guessed.
Favorite quote
“I was falling for prisoner 97813. It was reckless and stupid, maybe even dangerous and I couldn’t stop myself.”

And today Ladies and Gents my winner is …*drum roll*
Graham and Lucy in The Gravity of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry
I adored this book but had not one tissue left by the end.
It’s a kind of conflict of interest as Lucy cares for Graham’s daughter even if she is not really the nanny plus Graham is married! His wife deserted that’s true but this is a conflicting situation. Plus there is another “complication” that I won’t speak about for fear of spoiling the book.
Here is what I wrote about them:
“She is the heart and he is the iceberg. They’re polar opposites: “Doesn’t it tire you?” I asked. “To feel so much?” “Doesn’t it tire you to not feel at all?” I’m certain below the surface hides a caring man. Or at least I hope but I have faith in Brittainy C Cherry”
Favorite quote:
“She’s my complete opposite,” I told him. “Lucille is such an odd character, a freak of nature. She’s clumsy and always speaks out of turn. Her hair’s always wild, and her laughter is at times annoying and too loud. Everything about her is disastrous. She’s nothing more than a mess.” “And yet?” he urged me on. And yet, I wanted to be just like her. I wanted to be an odd character, a freak of nature. I wanted to stumble and laugh out loud. I wanted to find her beautiful disaster and mix it together with my own mess. I wanted the freedom she swam in, and her fearlessness of living in the moment.”
