Top Ten Tuesday is featured by That Artsy Reader Girl. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Topic: Bookish Superpowers I wish I had.

I don’t think I’ll reach a list of ten but let’s try it nonetheless!

  • I wish I could recall most of the details of what I have read in a book. Even the characters name are forgotten once I close the book so let’s not speak of the tropes, side characters etc!
  • I wish I could listen to more than 1X speed my audiobooks! Alas, speeding just alter the narrator voice so much that I don’t like it at all.
  • I wish I could read anything any time! That would be handy when I have ARCs due for a certain date.
  • I wish I could magically expand my house to have more shelves and keep more books. Instead I just get to unhaul several times a year as I hate clutter!
  • I wish I could write impactful and meaningful short reviews. Even in French I tend to digress and write long texts so imagine in a foreign language! Yet I’d love to use just a few words to convey exactly what a book made me feel and think.
  • I wish I could reply every day to all comments left on my blog and blog hop daily too. Instead in winter I am so exhausted by the end of the day that I seem to catch up on the weekend.
  • I wish I could beautifully annotate my books with color coded tabs, each color having its purpose. Instead I tab randomly, using the colors to match the cover!
  • I wish I could choose a top 5 favorite books at the end of the year but instead I come up with a list of about 30 favorites (minimum).
  • And finally, I wish I could possess a gorgeous booknook instead of “just” my couch, blankets and my dog πŸ˜‰

Thanks for reading!

  1. “I wish I could reply every day to all comments left on my blog and blog hop daily too.” Yes, I’m feeling this one so hard right now (I say as I’m about 3 weeks behinds on comments…)
But yes, love all of your chosen superpowers!

  2. My go-to reading speed for audiobooks is usually 1.50 or 1.60 depending from narrator to narrator. And weirdly enough I can’t do this with podcasts, with them it needs to be regular and not sped up. Why am I so weird!

  3. Yeah I wish I could listen faster to books to. It depends on the narrator, but on average the fastest I can do is 1.5-1.75 and 2 is pushing it but if the narrator is super slow then I can get it that fast. But I can’t do it faster than that. And if they have accents I have it at 1.25. But when I see readers do 4x I am like they have superhero hearing lol

  4. I am always looking up the character’s names when I finish a book. How can I not remember?! I agree with the audiobooks. I cannot go more than 1.3x. The high pitched voices are really bad when you go faster, and I miss too much stuff too.

  5. Ugh, the internet ate my first comment. πŸ™
I actually recall many details long after a book. Names, plot points, etc.
Hooray for listening at 1X! You’re the only other person I know who does that, Sophie. Everyone seems to listen at warp speed. I can’t do it, it doesn’t sound natural. People don’t speed talk to the point that it’s a garbled blur. It would take me right out of the story.
