What books should be read in school?

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Today’s theme is: Books I Was Assigned to Read in School but I wasn’t feeling it. Mostly because my books would have be unknown to most of you (Germinal, Marius, La Chèvre de monsieur Seguin, l’Etranger, la Cantatrice Chauve…).
So I went rogue instead and chose a list of books that I think should be part of the school program. Maybe some are part of it, who knows, but with the book ban running rampant in the US, I highly doubt that!
The books you will find here after have all the same purpose: to open eyes, to educate, to exercise criticisme and to cultivate your empathy. In a few words: to make better persons of the reader.
They tell stories about the LGBTQ community, about migrants, about abused or raped women, the oppression of people. They explain why being from a different color or culture or having different sexual choices than your own doesn’t matter because in the end, we are all human, all lovable. And the last one is also a big lesson about why you shouldn’t ban books!

I’ve only read The Hate You Give, but very much agree that it should be required reading.
I haaaaated La Cantatrice Chauve when we were forced to read it!!!

Got the dreaded NONCE. Hopefully reader works. I am glad to see The Radius of Us on your list. That book never got the love it deserved. I thought Exit, Pursued by Bear was great too.
