Once again Kate Stewart blew me away!
Sorry as this will once more be vague as I don’t wat to spoli anything for Flock nor this one!

First, this book was completely different from Flock even if you HAVE to read Flock to understand. This is the sequel but the focus shifted drastically and the mood is somber.

Cecelia was always a strong character but here, you could say she grew a pair! Sorry to be blunt like that but she battles toe to toe with big bad wolves and crush them under her pointy stiletto. Seriously, she is a helluva of a badass!

She also had a huge character growth. She suffered so much and she is haunted by past events. She can’t go on with her life without making peace with her ghosts. How much I cried with and for her!
I also raged because what had been done to her was cruel and of course she deserved explanations!
And how people she considered her friends turned her back on her I was outraged on her behalf!!!

She will fight like the devil for what she wants, even if she has to bare her soul and heart, get all vulnerable in the process. I think there is strength in vulnerability, in daring to love even knowing you will be hurt.

This was a roller coaster of emotions.

So why not 5 stars?

For three “details” that have me hold a (very midl) grudge against Kate:
-the death of someone who didn’t deserve to die (I haven’t swallowed that bitter pill yet);
-someone else moving on easily and reaching happiness (even if I am happy I still think it’s too easy while she suffered so much. Call me petty, I will own it);
-I wanted something else for epilogue. Something equivalent to the character who moved on … I know I know, cryptic.

You will just have to read that formidable duet if you hope to understand all my inuendos here LOL

My advice? Go for it, trust blindly and fasten your seatbelt all while having tissues at the ready!

  1. Killing off a character is so tricky. Especially when they didn’t deserve to die. It’s hard not to hold that against the author! LOL

  5. I completely agree – different vibe than book 1 but the impact of the two together is just…. magic. I rated the same, for mostly the same reasons. I was petty enough I didn’t want to that epilogue because I didn’t want to see that character’s happiness in moving on LOL

    I AM someone who likes the trope you mentioned in your review for book one (like, a lot) and there is a teeny part of me that wanted a completely different outcome, but I appreciate tropes and stories of all kinds and this story was very, very well done. Written with the kind of passion from the author that always translates into an excellent read for us readers. Definitely will be in my top reads of the year!
