Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s theme was a freebie and with Halloween on the corner, I wanted to feature books with magical creatures. Some are rumored evil, some are downright good …or so it seems!

You’ll find a mash up of oldies but goodies and of relatively new reads.

I can’t promise to limit to ten though as I really want to push these reads on everyone! 😀  And I’ll give you a quote for every book!

Werewolves first! Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

Calla,” Shay called from the hall. “Without your nakedness to distract me, I’m remembering that we’re in serious trouble. Hurry, please.”
― Andrea Cremer, Nightshade

A mix of vampires, fey and werewolves : King Hall by Scarlett Dawn

“If I wasn’t mated, and wasn’t straight, and you were a Mage, and we hadn’t made that pact for friendship’s sake, I would totally screw you.”
― Scarlett Dawn, King Hall

A list of vampire books now!

Here Be Sexist Vampire by Suzanne Wright

“How could you be attracted to someone who made you so pissed off that you’d considered burning their balls with a lighter?”
― Suzanne Wright, Here Be Sexist Vampires

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black

“If she was going to die, she might as well die sarcastic.”
― Holly Black, The Coldest Girl in coldtown

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

“The only thing better than imagining Dimitri carrying me in his arms was imagining him shirtless while carrying me in his arms.”
― Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L Armentrout

“And what do you think you need to protect me from in here?” I demanded, looking around. “An unruly bedpost I might stub my toe on? Oh, wait, are you worried I might faint? I know how good you are at handling such emergencies.”
― Jennifer L. Armentrout, From Blood and Ash

Slayer by Kiersten White

“Of all the awful things demons do, keeping Latin alive when it deserves to be a dead language might be the worst.
To say nothing of ancient Sumerian. And ancient Sumerian translated into Latin? Diabolic.”
― Kiersten White, Slayer

I gave you tons of books with witches last week so here is only my favorite of the year : A Discovery of Wicthes by Deborah Harkness

“I trust my wife’s judgement… That’s what Philippe says about Granny, just before all hell breaks loose.”
― Deborah Harkness, Shadow of Night

Only one Fey book but what a series …

“He thinks he’ll be remembered as the villain in the story. But I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

Death! Existence by Abbi Glines (my favorite of all her books that I have read)

“I love you,” I said, causing his face to contort in pain.
“I’m not a man so I do not have a heart that loves as a human does. I’m an immortal god that dwells with supreme power because I hold the keys to Death. But you are my existence. I am yours.” Hot tears streamed down my face as I stared into the face of someone who comprehended an emotion much stronger than my weak, feeble words of love.”
― Abbi Glines,

And let’s end with us in heaven with my favorite angels!

Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

“She’ll kill me if she finds you in here. Can you climb trees? Tell me you can climb a tree!”
Patch grinned, “I can fly.”
― Becca Fitzpatrick, Hush, Hush

Angelfall by Susan Ee

“I never kid about my warrior demigod status.”
“Oh. My. God.” I lower my voice, having forgotten to whisper. “You are nothing but a bird with an attitude. Okay, so you have a few muscles, I’ll grant you that. But you know, a bird is nothing but a barely evolved lizard. That’s what you are.”
― Susan Ee, Angelfall

Do we share some favorites?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. There’s book I really enjoyed like Agelfall, Hush Hush and ACOTAR in this list but there’s also some books I really didn’t like that Sexist Vampires (her demon series is superior and I just didn’t like the hero in this vamp series). Good list Soph! I think Bloodline is better than VA but at least Adrian and Sydney appear in the series. I also like Abe.

  2. I liked Angelfall as well! For some reason I don’t tend to like werewolf books so much D: You know I love vampires! Love Twilight and Dracula a lot :3

  3. Wow, you have some great books here! I absolutely LOVED Angelfall! I was obsessed with it when it first came out. I also love the Vampire Academy; I binged the whole series in a couple weeks! Great post
