For months now I entered what my friend Joe@Storey of Stories imagined as brand new meme called “First Impression”.
It’s a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only two sentences in the book, a chapter or two , maybe a little farther. The goal is to give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end. It will be fun to go back to this post once you’ll have finished the book! Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you right all along?
Sorry I am late with this post but I had a migraine since 36 hours. Now it seems to get better thanks to pain killers and a long nap *who said it’s for toddlers????*.
So today I am posting about a special current read as it’s the book people recommended that I read on my WWW Wednesday post.
I was in a book slump and did not know which book to choose from my looong TBR. It was a tie between Mirage, Reaper at the Gate and More than We can Tell when one vote switched the scale! Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas was the winner.
If I had to read it it was this month as the last book in the series is being published (and pre-ordered) in October!
Honestly it’s been on my shelf since months and months now but I was reluctant to read it because:
-it seems like a “side story” and I hate side stories in series. I am “would you just focus on the main story and let us know what will happen or what?!”
-I don’t like Chaol very much and am not interested in reading 664 pages! *huge book for a side story* about him.
-I just want to know what will happen to Aelin/Celeana and please could you already give us the story!
BUT
A bet is a bet or rather here a vote is a vote.
I opened the book yesterday with great reluctance but due to my migraine have not been able to read more than 80 pages so far *I can readwalk but not readsleep yet, sorry to disappoint you*.
Verdict: I don’t want to stop reading!!!!! Damn tomorrow I have family visiting for my kids birthday so I’ll have to bake, chat and be polite when all I’ll want will be to read!
I am the first astonished!
Sarah J Maas has an incredible gift: she sucks me in her stories every time! I am already immersed and it’s like happening to brand new characters. Yet I know them. She has mastered the art of blending action/depiction/inner thoughts/back stories/twists in a smooth way.
My prediction? Let’s be bold here: 5 stars!
Now back to my last week’s First Impression and the week before!
I was reading Crew by Tijan and predicted 4 stars and 4 stars it’s been! Read the review below (click on the graphic).
The week before I had begun Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff
I gave it 5 stars and more! For a non sci fi fan I was mesmerized and awed!
That’s it for today!
What is your first impression today?
Thanks for reading!
Glad to hear the book started so well. Sometimes we just need to put aside our assumptions and read! I know, easier said then done. ♥️ Hopefully it will not disappoint.
WHAT?!? You can’t readsleep?? Hahaha…love that, I wish we could all do that! Happy birthday to your kiddo!
I’m so glad you’re loving it so far. Hopefully it doesn’t dissapoint!
I’m still reluctant to read Tower of Dawn for the same reasons as you. So glad to hear you enjoy it, and feel better! I’m currently reading Assassin’s Blade. Should have done that sooner. My poor Sam. Sometimes I wish Aelin would just die so that she could be somehow with Sam. lol
