Synopsis

As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.
A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people.
He must live for more.
Audiobook Review
All the stars and holly sh!t !
Sh!t, sh!t, sh!t as our favorite goblin would say.
That ending!!!!
Golden Son is simply incredible. Filled with twists and turns that had me sitting on the edge of my seat all along!
This will be a very short review as I dashed up to read Morning Star right after because the ending simply killed me!
Darrow is once more the star of the book but he’ll be going through hell more than once!
The opening chapter has him at the head of a huge spaceship with Roque, Tactus and Victra (Antonia’s badass sister) alongside him and trying to destroy Karnus (Cassius’s oldest brother) ‘s ship.
They are the latest contestants of the Academy where Darrow spent his last years to become first of their class and master of a fleet.
When Darrow is certain that he has Karnus cornered something dramatic happens and it’s all Darrow can do to escape with his life!
Disgraced, he knows that he’ll soon be abandoned by Augustus.
All seems lost but a drastic turn of events initiated by Darrow will spin the story in a whole other direction!
And that’s only the beginning!
You have battles, mad escapes, crazy moves by Darrow and Sevro on huge battle ships, conquest, betrayals and much more!
You’ll also have the addition to a new favorite character: Ragnar. The huge stained obsidian was purely amazing! He’ll become Darrow’s bodyguard and what a bodyguard!
Darrow is still an amazing hero, perfect blend of Golds and their power with Reds and their humanity, their empathy.
I love that Pierce Brown still gave him a crew, a “found family”, a blend of the old ones with Sevro and new ones with Victra and Ragnar. Alongside his Red family, they give Darrow the courage and hope to do what he must do, even if it’s incredibly hard!
That series is simply brilliant, a must read!
And I recommend the audiobooks as the narrator does a splendid job here!
Thanks for reading!
Sophie

I read the first book in this series and then never went back to it. I don’t even know why because I did love the first book. I might need to put that one my re-read list to refresh my memory because this sounds like a series I should definitely continue.
