Synopsis

An unusual girl. An enigmatic man. An ancient castle. What could go wrong?
An outcast her entire life, Corvina Clemm is left adrift after losing her mother. When she receives the admission letter from the mysterious University of Verenmore, she accepts it as a sign from the universe. The last thing she expects though is an olden, secluded castle on top of a mountain riddled with secrets, deceit, and death.
An enigma his entire life, Vad Deverell likes being a closed book but knowing exactly everything that happens in the university. A part-time professor working on his thesis, Vad has been around long enough to know the dangers the castle possesses.
And he knows the moment his paths cross with Corvina, she’s dangerous to everything that he is.
They shouldn’t have caught each other’s eye. They cannot be. But a chill-inducing century-old mystery forces them to collide. People have disappeared every five years for over a hundred years, and Corvina is getting clues to unraveling it all, and Vad needs to keep an eye on her.
And so begins a tale of the mystique, the morbid, the macabre, and a deep love that blossoms in the unlikeliest of places.
Review
4 solid stars
I wanted to read that one for a long time now given all the hype!
I think Gothikana is a very good gothic romance with the right dose of mystery. Corvina is a lovable character who has been dealt some hard cards in life and made the most of it. She has been isolated her whole life, sheltered by her mother and she knew that she was different. But all she’s ever wanted was to belong, to be seen as “normal” and not like a freak.
Verenmore is her unexpected chance at a fresh start. To blend in and meet other young people.
When she arrives at the university, the huge castle atop the mountain, shrouded in mystery and legends is fascinating and spooky.
She’ll immediately be welcomed by Jade who is to become her best friend.
And once she’ll see professor Vad Deverell, tall, mysterious, dark and handsome… the air will sizzle, even if he is forbidden to her!
We’ll read all about their intense attraction between these two while the tension is ever growing at the university as students are dying inexplicably and an ominous date is looming on the horizon.
Will Corvina be able to solve the mystery surrounding Verenmore university and stop more people from dying?
If you love teacher/student romance, mysteries and gothic atmosphere this is a good book for you!
Thanks for reading!

It’s a love of hate kind of book!
I love the sound of this book. I don’t think I’ve read a Gothic romance before. I definitely need to check it out.

Thank you Carole!
I really had so much fun with this one here! I like the other cover as it seems to represent the gothic feel to the book a bit better. It was really interesting how she developed the teacher/student trope in this one and I really liked how it was done. Great review!
Thank you Renee!
This book is new to me. I am not a fan of teacher-student romance (maybe because I was a teacher?), but I am glad to hear you enjoyed it. The setting sounds quite intriguing
That’s understandable Sam! I wouldn’t like it too either!
