Unputdownable!

Be warned that there is lots of tension ramping up and angst in that book but that’s what makes it so hard to stop reading!

We follow Teagan, a young woman who has lost her parents very young and has been raised by her big brother. She is working hard at a grocery store, saving everything she can to enter nursing school one day.

But a one night stand she doesn’t remember clearly leaves her pregnant.

After she recognizes her baby’s father as a very wealthy realtor, who happens to be married, they enter a negotiation to settle on a compensation.

But Teagan never signs the contract and on her way to her brother, she has crashes in a blizzard. Hurt and alone, she is rescued by a giant bearded man, Hank, who brings her home to his wife Polly, an ex-nurse.

With a broken ankle, excruciating pain and heavily pregnant, Teagan is led to the basement of the house where Polly will tend to her wile waiting for the paths to clear and call for an ambulance.

Only…only everything is not as it seems and soon Teagan realizes that she is trapped with few hope to go to the hospital. Terrorized, in awful pain, she must find a way to save herself and her soon to be born baby.

Freida McFadden smartly played her cards as Teagan happened to be an unreliable narrator. The villain was not who she thought it was. And when I realized the truth, I just wanted to shout: « Open your eyes! Don’t trust the wrong person! »

We soon fall into a huis clos(behind closed doors) thriller with the atmosphere becoming more oppressive by the minute!

Will Teagan escape? Will her baby be ok?

We also got to see through Polly’s eyes as it’s told from a dual POV and it was very interesting to see the situation through her prespective. We got a totally different story about her marriage than what Teagan thought! Being in her head was equally scary and sad.

And when the situation was reaching its apex, we will get another twist that I didn’t see coming and yet a third one in the epilogue!

This was very good Freida McFadden with characters in shades of grey as is her usual modus operandi a riveting plot and a very talented narrator.

I recommend for fans of heart pounding thrillers!
