It’s too bad that I am in a review slump because this book deserves all the praise!
This was an excellent surprise that compelled me to read it any spare time I had.
What’s the Raven Scholar about?
In a nutshell, it’s about a competition that takes place when an emperor has finished is “mandate” with the goal of finding his successor.
Champions from different guardians Bear, Ox, Monkey, Raven, Fox and Hound will compete under the supervision of the Dragon. Yet this year one of the competitors is assassinated and it’s Neema Kraa, the emperor’s High Scholar who must investigate.
The only problem? The more Neema is looking for the truth the more she realizes she has embarked on a dangerous game that could end up in her own demise. She is also forced to compete, something she had never thought of nor trained for!
Full of magic, secret agendas, betrayals but also love and friendship, the Raven Scholar is an outstanding fantasy whose backbone is built on excellent penmanship, imaginative worldbuilding and compelling characters!
Of course it ends on a cliffhanger but I already know that I will read the sequel and hop it will live up to this first work!
