I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer to showcase our book blogger lover for characters! Each week she’ll supply a topic and you’ll supply the character. Post on whatever day suits you, about characters from whatever media you love (books, movies, K-dramas, television, manga, anime, webtoons, whatever!) and link up on Thursday so YOU and others can blog hop and share the character love.

Today’s topic is Man You Want Next Door (A male character you wouldn’t mind as a neighbor)

This is a SERIOUS topic! Everyone knows that neighbors can be either a pain in your behind or a Godsend!

Would you like a neighbor letting his dog poop on your doorstep? Or playing music really loud till the wee hours while you have to work?

Or a neighbor parking his car in your alley behind your car? Or….

No, of course not!

I dare say we should investigate the neighbors before renting or buying a house!

Just to be prepared.

And maybe buy laxatives or arsenic…

As I don’t want to rain on your parade today let’s look at the bright side and wish for your perfect male neighbor.

How would you like your male neighbor?

Eye candy? You know when he is mowing his lawn shirtless a six packs is easier on the eyes than a beer gutt….just saying!

Handy as in “I am the repairman “or “I can change your tire”? It might always be usefull when the faucet is leaking and you are too broke to call a plumber. Or it’s midnight and now way any professional will help you in the middle of the night!

Loyal and caring? Who knows when you’ll have to find someone to entertain the kids while you dash to get a mani pedi!

Good cook? When you invite all your friends and need a male to man the barbeque…Charred sausages can sour people’s moods.

Kind and encouraging? When you feel like you have gained weight and need some moral support to boost your ego before an important business meeting…

Well I have two perfect candidates for you to choose (I could lend them if you help me with my exploding book budget).

Number one: Jonah from When We Collided by Emery Lord

Jonah is one of these characters you can’t help rooting for. He is seventeen and bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders. Since his father’s death he is taking care of the three younger in the family taking turn with his two other siblings. He also works at his dad’s restaurant trying to keep it afloat and having money running in the family. His mom is buried under grief and rarely leaves her room leaving the older kids to care for the younger ones.

Jonah is aged before his time. He is an incredibly strong character always thinking about his siblings before his own needs. A care taker, a protector he often forgets his own wants and needs.

Number two: Quentin from Almost Impossible by Nicole Williams

Meet Quentin. Head life guard at the pool. Nice abs wide shoulders.
Quentin is the boy of your dreams.
He will push you to live your life in a “live your life and don’t regret”. Do. Don’t live vicariously through books. That’s quite ironical for us bookworms but true nonetheless. I love Quentin as he is  just perfect: handsome, sweet, responsible, wearing his heart on his sleeve…everything you should wish in a YA book hero.

Cherry on top he has quick remarks! I love a good banter.

So what do you think of my candidates?

Who would you like as male neighbors?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. Great post Sophie. This would be a hard one for me since I have only recently gotten used to even having neighbors at all since we moved to Arizona a year and a half ago. Before that, I loved being neighbor free. Jonah sounds like a good pick though.

  2. I haven’t read either of these but they sound like great choices! I definitely agree with seeing abs while mowing the lawn over a beer gutt hahaha.

    1. Hahaha Anna I tried to find a GIF with the coca cola man mowing the lawn and shirtless but ..nope! Too bad 😉

  3. I’m going to go against the consensus and choose Jonah from When We Collided by Emery Lord!! (Gonna add to my tbr!) I thought I’d seen that book recently but couldn’t remember where… But I LOVE AND ADORE guys who take care of their siblings for parents who suddenly become widows. There is just something so great about a kid who rises to a challenge. ❤️ And the funny is rockin it Sophie! Love that.

  4. What a fabulous post! I think I’d like the shirtless neighbor, but if I had to choose one of the two books you mentioned, I’d say Quentin. He sounds perfect!
