I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer to showcase our book blogger lover for characters! Each week she’ll supply a topic and you’ll supply the character. Post on whatever day suits you, about characters from whatever media you love (books, movies, K-dramas, television, manga, anime, webtoons, whatever!) and link up on Thursday so YOU and others can blog hop and share the character love.

Today’s topic is A Kickass Who’d Have Your Back (A character you super admire for their abilities! Share with us when and why you think they’d have your back.)

Imagine there has been something runing amiss, an experience turned wrong and suddenly zombies plague the world. They are all trying to eat some fresh flesh and meat. This is frightening as you feel like living in an episod of The Walking Dead.

Your chances at survival if you are alone are close to nihil. So you are looking for a kickass man or woman to have your back and save your precious behind.

Someone who would not turn tail at the first sight of a monster. Someone who would heal you if you had been injured. Someone determined to make it through and have the upper hand!

Who would you choose?

My reading life is filled with kickass female and male characters that could be the perfect choices like: Roselle St Sismode (Secondborn), Manon Blackbeak or Aelin (Throne of Glass), Rhysand (ACOTAR), Kestrel (The Winner’s Curse) and I could go on and on.

But I want to give you some new choices and bring the spotlight on other deserving and fantastic characters.

My choice of the day is Yrene Towers from Throne of Glass

We met Yrene in Tower of Dawn and she literally had Chaol’s back! Mind you she healed him with countless sessions, going deep into his pain and his psyche. Her light literally chased the Valg demon. She’s never been frightened by this nasty demon. Even when he bared his teeth and was hissing furiously.

I think a zombie would not faze her either!

Even when she had to go again and again, until sheer exhaustion she never abandoned. Her determination knew no limits.

She would be inspiring in a zombie invasion!

She also mastered some kickass self defense moves taught by Aelin herself. If the zombie had me in his clutches she would just beat him to pulp and he would never realize what had just happened!

As she is a healer she would come handy if I was wounded and I bet you that she could right the wrong and heal zombies, making them humans again!

Last but not least she’s lived in a tower filled with other healers, had a sister community and she would make for a great friend.

Here is what I wrote about Yrene:

Yrene Towers has now become one of my favorite female characters of the series right alongside Aelin and Manon!

Yrene has literally crossed mountains alone to fulfill her dream: become a trained healer.

I loved reading about her dramatic past, her years in the tower, her self defense lessons, her…

She is a very determined heroine yet warm and sweet to her chore.

She has fear but chooses to face them and that’s real courage.”

Favorite quote to represent her courage:

And here you can find a video showing you how the artist MEABHD created this fabulous drawing of Yrene and Chaol!

.

Now who would you choose to have your back?

Thanks for reading.

  1. What a fun topic! I’m taking Ian Taggart from Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series! If he didn’t kill the zombies with sarcasm, he’s have plenty of weapons to take them out.

  2. I haven’t read Throne of Glass but I always hear about those characters hahah Thanks for sharing that video too! I was ready to google Yrene Towers just to see what she’d look according to fans. 😀

  3. I have yet to slog through the series. I started the first book, and liked the premise of it, but I DNF’d and I don’t remember a specific reason. The writing or pacing? I’ll pick it up again cause she sounds cool.

  4. Yrene’s amazing choice! i haven’t read the last TOG book yet but i’ve heard she’s in it and i can’t wait to read more about her and her relationship with chaol. it would be so handy to have a healer. i just don’t know what she could do if u were turned into zombie

  5. Good choice! I haven’t read any of the Throne of Glass books, but the way you described Yrene definitely makes me think she’s a major badass!

  6. Great choice! I’d go with Kismet from The Jill Kismet series by Lilith Saintcrow. She can take down any kind of supernatural creature or demon, so what’s a few zombies. LOL

    1. Hahaha Laura with all your reads about horror, monsters and zombies of course you would have the perfect character your have your back LOL
