Synopsis

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover. After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself. The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them. The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Everyone already raved about this story so I don’t know what I can add.
Contrary to many, it took me a very long time to fall into the story and really feel for the characters.
It’s probably because the way Kenna was portrayed at judgement day made me see her as an unfeeling person. At least at the time of the drama.
I couldn’t believe how someone could abandon his loved one to die! How was it possible that she had never asked for help???
How could she have let him die for fear of consequences for herself???
But I can see now that CoHo did this on purpose and….it worked splendidly!
She had me where she wanted me to go.
And yet, I also had a lot of compassion for Kenna, separated from her daughter.
I thought she was a new person. She had grew. She deserved a second chance.
And that’s the beauty of it: I had to go through the same journey as Ledger to finally grasp everything and see Kenna for who she really was.
So congrats on the writing here!
And of course Ledger is a very worthy hero: raising Kenna’s daughter, offering jobs to “strays”, T ball coach, helping his deceased best friend’s parents navigate their grief….
And sexy!
So I’d say the hype is deserved and if you love a romance rolled into a redemption story, go for it!
Thanks for reading!

Kenna could sometimes be her own worst enemy, but I still empathized with her and loved the story.
Me too but it took me some time to get there Tanya!
I’m actually listening to this book right now and I understand what you’re saying about Kenna. I felt the same way for the first part of the book.
It seems that we are in sync Suzanne!
I have to admit, I need to be in the mood for a CoHo book, otherwise, my reaction could be less than stellar. I do like the sound of the hero in this book though.
I have to be in the mood too Sam!
Great review on this Sophie. To be honest I am not sure I will pick up COHO. I know some of her books aren’t really romances and can be pretty brutally emotional. She is one of those authors I am really scared to pick up. I might eventually as I know many people love her stuff, I just don’t know if I would enjoy her. But I am so happy that so many get so much love and great things from her books.
So far I have avoided her “non romance ” books Renee as I am a bit frightened 😉
Great review Sophie! I find I’ve got to be in the mood for a CoHo book as they really put you through the wringer!
I totally agree Caro!
Totally worth the hype!!
