The premise is simple.

Two families are vacationing at a resort. One night, one of the couples is brutally murdered. Their teenage daughter, Reese, disappears.

And it’s up to her aunt, Courtney, to help uncover what really happened.

Now let me tell you something important: this book is packed with unlikeable characters.

You’ve got the annoying teenager.
The next-level douchebags (Wyatt and Daniel truly compete for worst human).
The nagging, tense mother.
And a general atmosphere of “something is deeply wrong here.”

The only character I genuinely liked was Courtney — thankfully she’s one of the main POVs.

The story is told through dual perspectives (Courtney and Reese), with a final chapter from another viewpoint. And let me be very clear:

I did NOT guess who took Reese.
I did NOT guess the killer correctly.
And my theories changed about every five minutes.

There was also a smaller twist involving Kayla that I kind of suspected something about… but not fully.

This is a slow-burning psychological thriller that blends a ticking-clock investigation with small-town buried secrets. It all unfolds over just a few days, which keeps the tension tight.

It’s well written. It’s efficient. And it absolutely takes you for a spin.

If you guess everything correctly, I will personally hand you a crown.
