Today is Sunday, time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week in and out of the blog. As usual I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly @caffeinatedreviewer .

As today is the last day of January (already????) I will combine with my monthly wrap-up.

In my private life

We are still in lockdown, even if shops and schools are open. The theaters, fitness clubs, restaurants, hairdressers, salons etc are still closed and the rule is homeworking.

We can only see one person outside our home for all the people living under the same roof.

The virus is still very active but we seem to fare quite right given the new variant is very aggressive. So let’s hope we’ll win the run of vaccination against it!

Now these last two weekends, we had my daughter and her boyfriend at home. He is our “person” that we chose to see without mask outside the house. Honestly, it’s really amazing to have them for the weekend.

It’s a nice change, new people to talk to and he seems to really love coming to our home for the weekend. I think he adopted us LOL

As he is laid back, kind, considerate, charming and has humor, that’s no bother at all for us.

I am still blogging “easy style” and don’t push me to post every day. That works perfectly with my new frame of mind.

I did make two funny videos on Instagram or, reels as you call them so if you are on Instagram and want to have a laugh, I am leaving them here below.

This month I read 11 books! Some reviews are not published yet and will be published next week and the week after but it was an AMAZING reading month with many new favorites!

I will post about my four winners now.

It all began with A Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor: All the stars for that book that was a buddy read!

.

Then Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kauffman: The audiobook was brilliant! 5 stars

After that I got a crush on a new series: Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco . 5 stars! That was another brilliant audiobook! Since that first one, I also listend to Hunting Prince Dracula and am now listening to Escaping Houdini!

And today I woke up at 5 AM to finish Legendborn by Tracy Deonn! The review will be posted next week but it’s a brilliant 5 stars

Now do tell me all about your week!

Thanks for reading.

Sophie

  1. We are about in the same boat.. although it had been doing better, cases were not growing as much now and we’ll know tomorrow if we move back to the next phase where the “extras” like gyms and etc. opens again (and we’ll get to have a new list of 10people outside our bubble).

For us though, in this “not-yet-lockdown” but pretty close phase are strictly only house bubble. Lockdown or not, as I work in the food industry, it doesn’t change anything to us — we shall remain open Though the news of having few cases of the super aggressive strain in the province scared me shitless (as you know Im very close to mother who got a kidney.. the pressure is unreal), I don’t think i’d be able to remain at home for so long; despite the fact that i’m only getting to work and back home, I get so see and talk to other people.

Happy to see that it was a nice reading month for you, and that you enjoyed all of the books!
Stay safe and hoping February is better xx

  2. You’re not alone! We’re still in full lockdown with no return date yet for schools and everything closed… With the vaccine roll-out at least an end is in sight… Right? (Prays to anything currently or formerly regarded as a deity)

The Stalking Jack The Ripper series and Legendborn are both on my kindle and just waiting for me to get stuck in! I just need motivation… Ah well, I’ll get to them eventually. 🙂

Hope you have a good week, Sophie!

  3. You had a great reading month! I’m glad you loved Illuminae! Gemina is my favorite in the trilogy and I can’t wait for you to read it. I hope you enjoy it! And also good to hear that you’re enjoying stalking jack the ripper. Aubrey and Thomas are my favorite couple!

  4. I have a copy of Staking Jack the Ripper that I NEED to get around to reading – great wrap up 🙂

  5. Sorry to hear about the lockdown! I’m surprised we’re not in one here, as bad as things are… but people here are just out and about, it’s crazy. These aggressive new strains are ridiculous, aren’t they? As if we didn’t have enough trouble!

  6. Omg, Sophie! You are so cute in your videos! And yes, I totally relate to that book buying ban that kind of never works out, lol!

Nice that you get along with your daughter’s boyfriend. Have a lovely week! 🙂

  7. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I didn’t like the rest of the series though. I really liked Illuminae too. I haven’t finished that series because I never have money when the third book is on sale. Have a great February!

  8. So glad you got on so well with your daughter’s boyfriend – it can be a nightmare if you find your lovely girl has brought home a total ratbag…

And I loved your Instagram argument between your good self and your buying self:)). I can relate!

I tried Illuminae on my rather elderly Kindle and I have to say, it wasn’t a success – I’m sure listening to it would be far more successful. You clearly had a wonderful reading month – and that delivery of books contains some gems, so I hope that February is a good month, too!

  9. It looks like you had a productive blogging week and yay for spending time with your daughters boyfriend. I definitely appreciate those that have a sense of humor, we need that more. I am hoping with the vaccine it will get life back to a sense of normalcy we definitely need it.

  10. Legendborn looks really interesting, I think I will have to look it up 😀 We are also under lockdowns here, and nothing really has opened up. I think as a student, my life will continue to remain at a standstill until college reopens for offline lectures. Have fun!

  11. I’m so glad you loved the audio of Illuminae! And Legendborn and DOSAB were total 5 star reads for me too (and a great buddy read!) Lockdown still here too with schools also closed. I’m wondering when they are going to lift it but I dont think it will be until early March unforts. COVID really needs to go away now.

  12. That’s some interesting rules you have in your country for lockdown. It’s nice your daughter and her boyfriend chose you. Looks like you had some fun in those videos. Great job!
