So the booksta hype got to me and #bookstamademedoit .

I had friends really enamored with this story and was in the mood for some vampire romance with a side of heat.

Was I amazed like my friends? No.

But that was a book that “reads itself”!

It’s not flawless, far from it but kept me entertained.

The storyarc centers around a vampire king set on conquering many kingdoms. When our villain, Adrian, meets princess Isolde in the woods, something happens and the connection is instant and very heated!

He’ll offer to spare her kingdom if she agrees to marry him.

Isobel will sacrifice herself for the good of her people, set on killing Adrian but that plan is thwarted early on.

She’ll follow our king to his kingdom, learning about vampires on the way and realizing that not everything she had been taught was the truth.

Cue a very sexual heroine with a lot of needs, needs that Adrian is more than happy to satisfy and also a mysterious plague.

Isobel is a strong heroine, stubborn and courageous. Kind of your “basic” heroine for adult fantasy really.

Adrian was … not what I expected!

He began as cold and cruel but his devotion for Isobel had him becoming much sweeter and.. it unsettled me. I won’t say I disliked it as that also was endearing in some way but it was like a personality change from the hero we met at the beginning.

I guessed pretty early on a (the)major plot point which was somehow a little bit disappointing but I still wanted to know the nitty gritty details. And the author left me wanting! There are still details left unknown at the end of the story but this being a series, maybe it will be revealed in the sequel.

All in all, I had a good time reading that story. Not the amazing book I expected but not the worst one either.

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. I love characters that show another side to the heroine but this one definitely sounds a little different, hmmm I wonder how I would do with that aspect. I have this on my tbr but I have so much ahead of it, I won’t be rushing to it ♥.
