Today is Sunday, time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week in and out of the blog. As usual I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly@caffeinatedreviewer .

As it’s the first Sunday of June, I’ll double it up with my May wrap-up.

In my private life

Well I got an unplanned hiatus from the blog this week as I got my second jab of Moderna and…was sick after!

My first shot went like a breeze with no side effects.

When I got my vaccine for the second time on Wednesday, I was feeling allright. The morning after, it was still going on splendidly but then around noon…I thought I would faint!

I have never fainted in my life but I felt all woozy all of a sudden. Then came the pain everywhere but no fever.

I sent a message to my boss and colleagues that I would go to sleep and see what would happen. After two hours I was back at work but still feeling way under the water!

My symptoms lasted 12 hours. And I told my mom I had forgotten what it felt to be sick as I am nearly never sick.

I had missed so much at work and in the house that I confess I didn’t post nor blog hopped until today!

My husband got his shot the day after and …he was way worse than I!

He had already been sick the first time but here, he was really unwell for more than 48 hours! Worse than the flu.

But hey, the good news is that in two weeks we’ll be fully protected!

This is a HUGE relief!

Also, my fitness club is finally reopening with a normal schedule so yay!

And last but not least, I booked a summer vacation of six days in Normandy today!!!

Yepee! Finally! I’ll be able to travel and go outside of my home!

I plan on walking a lot and visiting all the historical sites from WWII. First holiday with only my husband and I since the kids were born! I can’t wait 😀  And if my husband let me book everything because he is feeling low and was not interested in looking for anything, he surprised me right after I told him I had booked something with a “WE ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY!!!”.

I guess that helps improve his state of mind.

On the blog (click on the graphic to read the post)

As I’ve said I only posted once last week, before my vaccine.

But this month was a total surprise as I have read 15 books!!!!! I reviewed only 13 of them but still. This is a huge month for me.

Here are my monthly favorites:

I discovered Caraval for the first time this month and I breezed through that series!

The Light of the Midnight Star by Rena Rossner was a total surprise and pure delight!

I love Glendy Vanderah’s books, she always takes me where I would never expect going!

The Shadow of the Gods was my first John Gwynne but certainly not my last!

This is probably my favorite of the month because Katherine Center is just “it” for me.

And as June is pride month, I’d like to recommend this book by a brand ne author who poured her soul into it and wrote something very very good given all the sensitive issues it packed!

.

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. Yikes! Sorry the second dose of the vaccine hit you both so hard! I just got my first dose on Friday (Moderna) and have had some arm soreness, but nothing worse than a tetanus shot. I’ve heard varying levels of reactions to the second shot from co-workers and friends, so we’ll see what happens to me in a month lol.

Have fun on your trip to Normandy this summer! I don’t feel quite ready to travel here in the US yet, maybe I’ll feel more comfortable after I’m fully vaccinated.

  2. Sorry both of you got sick, Sophie, but I’m so glad you’ll be fully vaccinated soon. And a vacation! Hope you have a fantastic time (and get to read some great books)!

  3. Like you, I went through my first vaccine shot with no effects at all, while with the second I had a slight fever and felt like the after-effects of a flu for a couple of days, but perversely enough I was glad of the symptoms because at least I had concrete proof that the vaccine was indeed working! I’m weird that way… 😉

  4. Man! I have heard that the second dose has more of an effect! I had Pfizer and felt a bit blah for a couple of days, but nothing like what you described. I guess it is a payoff that is worthwhile, though. 😉

  5. I went to Normandy a few years ago and LOVED it. We loved seeing all the WWII sites. Also, it was just a beautiful part of the country.

Sorry you got sick but YAY for vaccines!

  6. Congrats on the Normandy trip! Sounds awesome. sorry to hear about the side effects though- yeah that second Moderna can be a doozy.

  7. Yeah, that 2nd shot is a whopper! Both my husband and I got really sick, but I got sick with the first one, too. I don’t feel good with the flu shot either, so I knew I wouldn’t feel good. It’s worth it though.

  8. I’m so glad you have your vaccines. Robin loved Shadow of the Gods too and I’m a fan of Katherine Center books. I hope you will get a bit more normal with the holiday now that you are vaccinated. We are still being careful.

  9. Sorry you and the mister suffered side affects. I am doing the sign of the cross right now hoping I do ok with my second dose next week. Yeah for vacations! I can’t wait for you to go and tell me all about it.

  10. Damn, so sorry to hear you and your husband both had a tough time of it with your second Moderna shots. Makes me worried, as I have mine in 4 weeks time. Anyway, hope you are bothfully recovered and looking forward to your holidays.
