Mid Year Book Freakout Tag 2025

Happy Friday!

We are now in the second half of the year and I have seen many of you doing this amazing tag : the Mid Year Book Freakout Tag!

So far I’ve read 74 books of my goal of 50. Yet I don’t plan on raising my challenge as I just want zero pressure!

That also mean that narrowing down my favorites will be difficult! But let’s try.

1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2025.

Honestly I can’t choose only one book. I will give you four books instead!

So far my winners are The Favorites, Onyx Storm, My Friends and Atmosphere!

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2025.

This is more like an interconnected standalone but I loved Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping.

3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.

Can’t wait to dive into Don’t Let Him in!

4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.

I have two releasesI am very excited about! Fury Bound and Empire of the Dawn!

5. Biggest disappointment.

I think it was Problematic Summer Romance. I usually adore Ali Hazelwood’s stories but that one just didn’t work for me.

6. Biggest surprise.

I have two surprises! One is Shield of Sparrow as I swore never to read Devney Perry’s books again and yet, here I was, living it! And the second is Rose in Chains as I had abandoned the dark romance genre years ago and didn’t expect to love it ever again!

7. Favourite new author. (Debut or new to you)

Without a doubt: Layne Fargo!

8. Newest fictional crush.

Haymitch as I just wanted to protect him in Sunrise on the Reaping.

9. Newest favourite character.

It’s a tie between Odessa, Hazel Hart and Frances Perkins.

10. Book that made you cry.

Without a doubt: My Friends!

12. Favourite book to film adaptation you saw this year.

I didn’t see any!

13. Favourite review you’ve written this year.

I think it’s this one.

14. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

I think it’s the Fairyloot edition of The Teller of Small Fortunes!

15. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

So many but most are not yet released like these:

  1. The Teller of Small Fortunes already has such a pretty cover on its own so a fairyloot edition must be gorgeous.
    I just got Problematic Summer Romance so we’ll see what I think. I usually like her work as a non-romance reader but dnf-ed Bride lol.

  4. I was surprised by Shield of Sparrows, too! I wasn’t convinced it would be anything better than an average romantasy (if it ended up even being that good), so I was very happy that I liked it so much. Sorry to hear about the new Ali Hazelwood, though. :(
