Calendar Girl is a monthly meme now hosted by Katie @nevernotreding and Adrienne @darquedreamer

but created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile.

Each month we get a new theme and choose our favorite book for the theme. The participants get to vote for their favorite. There is also a Twitter chat spanning as last month on several days!

Hi dear friends,

This month is about my favorite read so far this year. And I can tell you that the ladies at Calendar Girls are just MEAN because how do you choose a favorite among your kids?

To add insult to injury I did not schedule this post (how surprising) and as I am dead beat on my feet after my first day back at work I won’t have the time to explain in details the why!!!

So I’ll go with several contenders and …three winners (sorry ladies that’s the best that I could do!)

My contenders:

My winners:

Honestly I can’t recall the last time that I read about a book with magic and sorcerers and had so much fun! Not since reading Harry Potter I dare say! I know JK Rowling is the queen but Margareth Rogerson did a dang fine job in entertaining me in the best sense of the word! I’ve been simply swept off my feet and catapulted in a heroic and magical world!

If you love fantasy reads just read it!

I gave Skyward 6 stars!

It was so fantastic that I listened to the end of the book hidden in my garden after some errant that I had to do. I did not enter the house but went silently into the garden, dragged the chaise longue into a hidden corner and listened to the last 30 minutes. Because I could not stop and everyone knows that a mom, once entering her house is ALWAYS welcomed with “Mom! Can you help me please?” or “Darling? Can you come a minute?”.

On my dead body so long as I did not hear the word end!

I don’t have enough talent to express what Ruta Sepety made me live for two days. I can’t convey with enough strength and conviction all the beauty, the intensity, the sadness, the cruelty, the desperation of this formidable story.

I still have shivers and tears hearing in my head Jeorjeana Marie playing Joanna and whisper shouting: “Opi!” “Opi!”
I finished this book late at night and did not found sleep for a very long time, too entangled in their destinies and broken by their fate.

Just read or listen to it.

Here my three winners that I can’t separate, sorry!!!!!

Have you read them? Can you choose only one book?

Thanks for reading and I’ll reply to all your comments tomorrow as I have to catch-up on some ZZZZZ.

Sophie

    1. Alicia that’s what I’ll need to do with Kingdom of Copper by the time the third one will be published!

  1. I really need to give Skyward a go! I dread Sanderson though he is such a wordy writer I feel like I’m drowning in all his description… I’m going to read Sorcery of Thorns here as soon as I get it from the library! Hahahaha. Great picks Sophie!! ❤️

    1. Dani he was not wordy in this one! I fell right into it and it’s packed with action! I don’t do really wordy well or not right in the beginning!

  2. You’re a star, because I would never be able to feature a list as short as yours. I didn’t read any of your winners, but you did a fantastic job selling them to me.
