Hi dear friends,
Today is Sunday, and I am back from my business trip! Yay! Time to have a chat with you about what happened in my life and on the blog last week, linking back to The Sunday Post @caffeinatedreviewer!
In my private life first
I told you some weeks ago that when it rains it pours right?
Well it seems we are still drowning in problems this week.
First the kids and hubs are touchy grouchy and it’s exploding left and right at home.
Second I’ve had a headache for six days now. For someone who never or rarely had headache it’s been months that I am dealing with these problems. I am so fed up with them and will go to the doctor next week. I suspect they are stress induced headaches but I’d like for them to just leave me alone! It’s been really hard to blog and follow other’s feed as looking at a screen makes my head hurt with the light.
Add to it that my pup has decided to wake me up three to four times a night to go outside and you have an idea of how tired I am!
I think you could just drag me to mop the floor and it would work perfectly fine.
But of course this is not all!
On Wednesday someone stole my phone while I had just left the office. Like that. On the street.
I felt like a big wind pushed me from behind, walked some more steps then, thought it was weird. I checked my bag, unopened, but my smartphone was in an outer pocket and it was missing!
When someone steals your phone now you really feel naked!
All your bank app, social app, mail and of course contacts are gone!
I walked back to the office and called my phone operator to block the sim card immediately. There, one less threat.
Back home I changed all my passwords, beginning with my mail, the blog, Paypal, etc. and contacted my bank to deactivate the bank app on my phone. That’s when you realize that being the prudent person that I am (and my hubs working in IT security) I had a different password for everything and it took me hours to change them all!
Plus the day after going to the police station and waiting for more than one hour.
Ordering a new phone and installing everything again. Even learning how to navigate your new phone as I changed of brand.
The positive side of this all?
I have a new phone with an incredible screen (latest technology), the fastest to navigate on the web and a way better camera.
I am less “rich” but I have a new toy to play with.
This week’s moto is something Caro from CJR The Brit told me some weeks ago (right from Nemo): Just Keep swimming!
On the blog
Well I have read two wonderful books this week (that has to compensate right?) that will be reviewed next week: Three Heartbeats Away by CC Hunter (an ARC of the conclusion of The Mortician’s Daughter trilogy) and From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata (this reminded me why I loved her books so much!).
I published the much awaited reviews of The Kingdom of Copper by SA Chakraborty (how in God’s name could this series be her first work I don’t know!). It was a 6 stars read. Honestly everyone should read or listen to that book (the narrator is EXCELLENT!). By the way, I still don’t know what to listen to now! Do you know of extraordinary stories with narrator speaking on a steady pace (not rushed) and with not too low voices plus totally acting the book (not overacting either)??? Leave a comment please!
Call It What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer was also a fantastic contemporary read with many moral choices. 4,5 stars.
I told you that I was very busy trying to get a new phone and slowed down by a week’s headache so my posting has been pretty light this week.
On Tuesday I was really in heaven as I could talk about My Top 14 best books of all time (it was a best 10 but you know me ….always the overachiever).
On Thursday I posted my weekly discussion. This week I asked you if you needed an HEA or not.
On the blogosphere and in the literary world
No link this week as I’ve been cut from social media for some days. Sorry I’ll do better next week!
Now some quizz for Greg (and all lovers of quizz of course): Find your perfect reading spot starting Epic read’s quizz!
That’s all for now!
How was your week? Tell me something good please it will be a nice change of scenery 😀
Thanks for reading!
I am so sorry to hear about your phone. Ughhh that is awful. It happens tho. It does pour when it rains tho doesn’t it. Seems like it all happens at once. On the up side of that it gets better and the Sun comes out!
Mary
Dude….. That sucks about your phone! Though the new one sounds fun.
Gah, I hate those horrible weeks! I hope all is well now my friend! Or at least better? Sending you all kinds of good vibes a healing hands for your headaches!
Sending tons of hugs your way! I hope your headaches go away asap and that your pup lets you sleep through the night. Being sleep deprived and in pain oh my goodness, I’m so sorry!! *hugs* And that’s so awful about your phone, I’m so sorry that happened to you on top of everything else. Here’s hoping that this next week is a billion times better!!
Thank you so much Jen!!!! xoxo
OMIGOSH Sophie!! I hope you’re ok. You need to take a break with all the bad luck you have been having lately. I hope your headache turns out to be just that, and that you have a day off where everyone looks after you for a change!! Sending love and best wishes
Thank you So Much Meeghan!!
I’m so sorry about your phone!! That is awful 🙁 I hate people that do things like that! I am glad you were able to get everything turned off and get a new one! But still thats a pain to have to do everything 🙁
Thank you Brittany!
Wow, I really hope this week is a better one for you and that the doctor finds a cause for those headaches. That also sucks about your phone, but I’m glad you’re enjoying your new one.
Thank you Suzanne!!
These days most of our lives are on our phones, so I can understand how bereft you felt – and also angry, I imagine… Let’s hope that things will get better from now on! 🙂
Thank you so much Maddalena!
You aren’t kidding about the rain, Sophie. Hate that about your phone – the time it took to cancel everything and create new passwords could have been spent on other things. Hoping the doc can help with the headaches. And ‘Just keep swimming’ has been my mantra for years, lol.
Thank you Teri! We’ll swim together LOL
Oh no! I’d lose my mind if someone stole my phone, mostly because of all my photos! This has acted as a nice prompt to do a back up!!
I hope the doc can get to the bottom of the headaches… They royally suck! 🙁
I almost squealed at work when I saw From Lukov With Love. Oh how I love that book!!! I think it’s my fav Zapata.
Fingers crossed this week is a better one, Sophie!
Thank you Nicci!!!!!!!
I’m sorry you are having such a rough time , I hope you find a way to manage the stress you are experiencing and things get better.
Have a great reading week
Thank you so much Shelly rae!
Aw sorry to hear about the theft! People are crazy. Glad you got a new phone out of it though. 🙂
And good luck with the headaches! Hope they g away soon. Also- thanks as always for the quizzes- I always take them. 🙂
Thank you Greg and you are very welcome for the quizzes (I always take them too LOL)
“I’m less rich” I shouldn’t laugh but that was funny. But wow, that seriously sucks! Your week sounds brutal! You didn’t get a break at all. Good thing you immediately blocked the Sim and changed your passwords. My husband is someone who used to work with computer system informations and he has a different password for everything. I need to take a page out of his book lol I truly hope this week is better for you!
Genesis @ Whispering Chapters
Well my hubs being in IT security I follows his advices and I was so happy here! They would have had tons of different password to crack down.
Oh my goodness! You need a one of those puppy group hugs. I hope you can get some rest and relief. It’s so hard to do the things we have to do, when we are tired and in pain. Sorry about the phone. What a headache, but congratulations on your new phone (?) I hope this week is better for you
Thank you so much Sam! For the hugs and all 😉
Oh, that’s terrible about your phone and what a huge hassle on top of the theft! Passwords are a nightmare. Glad to hear it’s all sorted. Hope they catch the guy.
I enjoyed From Lukov With Love, too, but The Wall of Winnipeg and Me is still my favorite Zapata. Hope you have a better week, one without a headache, Sophie. 🙂
Thank you so much Rachel!
I am so sorry for your week. I hope this next week will be much improved. Scorpio Races is on my best list too.
Here is my Sunday Post
Thank you Anne! And I hope you can have some rest from all the move too!
I haven’t written a Sunday Post this week but thought I’d still visit some friendly bloggers 😉
I think I’d be lost without my phone, I’m sorry you had to go through that on top of everything happening at home too! I’ve gotta say considering all that, your posts this week have been fab!
I hope you have a much better week this week and enjoy your reads, Sophie.
Flora.
@Flora’s Musings…
Thank you Flora!
Oh, Sophie, how awful. It’s like being violated when someone steals anything, but a phone? Even worse as we keep, as you said, so much of our lives on those damn things. Me and mine have already learnt not to put everything on our phones. And ours only open with our thumbs so suck on that thief!
Also sorry to hear you’re still plagued by the headaches, and hope you get a visit to the doctor, just in case. But yes, you’re probably right, it’s stress, what with so much on your plate. 🙁 Do take good care of you. xxx
Thank you Alexandra! And mine open with the thumb too but we have a back up code to open it (in case the thumb can’t be read properly for whatever reason). So better safe than sorry right?
Wow you have had a rough week. I would not be able to survive without a phone even for a single day. Have a great week ahead.
Thank you Gayathri!!!
Ah man, you have had a horrible time, grab a good book and relax! 🙂
Have a great week and happy reading,
Stormi
Week in Review
Thank you Stormi!!
Ugh! Sorry about your phone! What a hassle but ya for a newer phone! At least a bad situation turned into a positive!
Hope this week is better for you and your family! (less grumpy people) Happy Reading! xx
Thank you SO MUCH!
So sorry you’ve had a rough week, Sophie. I hope the doctor can help, though maybe it’s your family that needs the sedatives, lol.
Thanks for the tips on what to do if you lose your phone- I never would have thought to get the sim card blocked!
Bwahahahaha yes I can try to give them sedatives Jacquie! This is a BRILLIANT idea! <3
Headaches are miserable and sometimes it feels impossible to just “work through them.” Hope you get some relief, Sophie. That’s terrible about having your phone stolen! Such a hassle to cancel everything and get the new one set up. Ugh. At least you have a nice new phone! I hope this coming week is much better all around!
Thank you so much Tanya!!!
Such a tough week. I too suffer from stress induced headaches. Haven’t found a solution yet. I hope you do. And sorry about your phone. Hope you enjoy the new one and have a better week ahead:)
Oh Laura I am sorry to hear that you are suffering from headaches too! You must have had some of them in the last months with all the work you’ve done!
I’m so sorry about the grouches and your headaches. Glad you are having things checked out by a doctor though. I hope the asshat who stole your phone meets karma. I love how you looked to the bright side of things. Enjoy the new phone.
Hahahaha Kimberly yes I hope karma will be a b**ch to him! Thank you <3
Well, all I can give is what you most likely need: HUG HUG HUG HUG HUG
Thank you!!!!!!!!
Oh Sophie I am sorry you had such a rough week!! There is SO MUCH personal info on a phone! Glad you got everything shut down and changed quickly. Hopefully this week is theft free!
Thank you Samantha and …fingers crossed!
So sorry for this miserable week! Glad you’re at least happy that you have a newer, nicer phone, but it must’ve been such a miserable experience having to change all those passwords and deal with a stolen phone!
Miserable experience is the right word Nicole!
Ahh! I would have a nervous breakdown if someone stole my phone! I hope they get the person.
I don’t think they will Jen! Anyway it is useless to them now.
I know someone whose iPad was stolen. She was bereft.
