Parenting your parent

Today is Sunday time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week . I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly@caffeinatedreviewer .

In my private life

Happy Sunday,

This week I realized that my 85 years old mother wasn’t able to manage her life anymore.

Withour getting into details let’s just say that I had to take measures or she would have run into a wall. That will also mean lots and lots of stuff for me to do to get everything under control.

It is sad when you have to scold your mom like you would do for your child.

I really would prefer for her to be able to still be independant and a firecracker. Alas, that time is past.

Sigh.

As her doctor said, I am caught between being a savior and an executioner. And that sums it up.

Let’s hope she will cooperate with me because my blood pressure has never been so high!

But some good news: I have finished the first reading (and analysis) of my 540 pages course! That means I get to read for pleasure again so yay!

As usual, I am leaving you with two reels that I hope you will enjoy!

The first one is a reading portal..

And the second one is about..studying when you want to read!

On the blog last week (click on the pitcure to read the post)

Hurray for audiobooks they literally saved my life these last three weeks of studying!

The first one is a feminist ode to women’s power defeating rich and malevolent guys.

And the second one feel like a warm blanket, hot chocalte and cinnamon bun rolled into one!

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your mom. I’m worried that will be coming at some point for my mom, but just need her to get her physical health better so she can keep going longer to even have to worry about that at this point. But we’re working on it. My thoughts are with you right now!

  2. I know you’re in a tough situation, Sophie – I’ve had just a little taste of it but not to the degree you’re dealing with. Just remember you’re doing the right thing and it’s done out of love. Yay for finishing the course book!

  3. I’m sorry about the issues as regards your mother. Make sure you take advantage of whatever resources there are to help you, and her.
I hope you enjoyed that study break, I’m sure you needed it :)

Wishing you a great reading week

  4. I’m so sorry about your mom. That sounds incredibly tough. But hopefully everything will go smoothly.

Also, 540 pages course YIKES! I’m sure you’re glad that it’s over with. And now back to reading for pleasure!

  5. I’m sorry to hear about your mom! Hopefully, things will go smoothly. Yay for getting back to reading for pleasure! Have a wonderful week, Sophie!

  6. Good luck with mom. I remember when my parents had to move my grandmother in with us after she was a victim of elder abuse and robbed of thousands of dollars. It’s hard. But at least you are done with your coursework and can escape (for a bit) into a book.

  7. Oh so sorry to hear about your mom. My mom and dad are 86 and 89 and will soon be in the same situation. I don’t live that close to them so its even harder. Hugs!

  8. I’m so very sorry you’ve reached that horrible stage in your mother’s life:(. I recall when my grandmother was swallowed up by dementia and my poor mother had to step in. It was traumatic for everyone, but particularly Mum. I loved your Instagram posts and I can absolutely empathise with deciding you need a reading break. That’s me!! Have a kinder week, Sophiex
