Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Today’s theme is: Books that Surprised me.
I chose books that surprised me in a good way. Some because they opened my eyes others because they are first work but don’t feel like first work or for any other reason!
Wolfsong was my first MM romance and I never expected to feel such a connection,warmth and love from the genre. I know I know I had preconceived ideas… Birthday was really eye opening and surprising. It totally wrecked me but I was so happy to have read it and be (hopefullly) wiser for it. The Poppy War was a first work that didn’t feel like a first work! Ready or Not: for a romcom or romance it had such depth and was truly spot on. I was so impressed! Empire of the Vampire was truly exceptional! Jay Kristoff has risen to a whole new level of penmanship!
Red Rising blew me away with its intricate plot, the many twists and the worldbuilding! The Foxhole Court: I had no idea that I would come to love that band of misfits and unhinged Andrew so much! That series is in a class of its own! Nine Minutes: talking about complex plot Beth Flynn is a master plotter! I never expected such complexity from a biker romance! A Court of Silver Flame: Sarah J Maas did the unbelievable: write such an impressive redemption story that Nesta went from a loathed character to favorite one! Lessons in Chemistry: that book was so smart and so spot on about women’s condition in the fifties that I could only marvel at Bonnie Garmus maestria!

I was not surprised by how emotional Ready or Not was as I have grown to expect that from Bastone, but I am glad to hear it was a nice surprise for you. Her books just keep getting better and better for me.
I’ve read about Cara’s and Bonnie’s but didn’t ever pick those up or read either one. Glad they were good surprises for you (the best kind of book!). Hope you find many more like that and thanks for visiting my list today.
