Synopsis

I was born to play and bred to win.My priorities were instilled in me early on—family and football. Those ideals led me to TGU and a coach whose ironclad principles mirrored my own.

With one last college season to play, my goal was singular—get drafted. By realizing my NFL dream, I could save my family, our ranch, and the only home I’d ever known.

Two birds, one ball.

Playing hard was my only option, but there’s always a wild card.

For all of my planning and hard work, I never anticipated falling for the coach’s daughter. Harper was a fair catch, but who knew loving her could be the one play to throw my career before it started or that the weight of our secret would change the game.

OK what’s this book about?

If you recall Kate’s previous book, “The Guy on the Left”, Theo was sharing his house with Troy (who will be our “Guy on the Right” from what I got) and Lance. Lance who was always silent and discreet. Well Lance is our man of the day! “Lance Prescott, aka ‘The Blanket.’ Cornerback for Texas Grand, number twenty-two.”

Lance loves boxing to unwind as he’s always had a temper since he was a kid.

“The day I turned eighteen, I got the barbed wire tattoos symbolizing my fight to keep my inner beast on a leash. And in the ring is where I learned to get along with it, where I let it reign.”

And let me tell you that he could give Atlas a run for his money as the guy had so much weighting on his shoulders!

I wonder how he did not crumple!

What he did not like at all was to find a small blond girl dancing while he had booked the gym to unleash his temper on a punching ball!

Enters Harper who will give him as good as she got! She is stubborn and determined not to be  disrespected by that jerk!

“WHAT THE F@CK? Who in the hell does this chick think she is? I just had my nuts snipped off and handed to me in a matter of seconds and by none other than a ball-busting little witch with a superiority complex. And she had the nerve to call me entitled?”

After this first heated encounter they will soon learn to share the gym and …become friends.

Harper is not the girl who will blind you with her beauty. I loved her spunky attitude, her football knowledge, her loyalty. She is an incredibly talented dancer and all her qualities will earn her a special place in Lance’s heart

Their relationship was a rollercoaster!

You first had it built on trust and shared dreams. Both had made compromises for the sake of their families. Both had secrets not shared yet that will create some small or big reveals in the story. Both want what’s best for the other, even if sometimes it’s not the future they envisioned. All was going well and then something happened and Harper fled to New York.

Lance’s life changed course and he tried to embrace his dreams only … after two years he still misses Harper.

He makes it his mission to go get his girl.

It will give us hot scenes and magical moments with one of my favorite scenes being Harper dancing on Christmas. That scene in the dark apartment with the snow falling on New York City was magical.

And then …everything broke, once more.

I confess that I was mad at Kate because talk about whiplash!

I know each had to grow up, to battle with inner demons, had to learn to gain confidence and get self love.

But the part where Harper comes groveling and Lance is just … blocking her was so long! Harper had tenacity! And I just wanted to bash lance’s thick skull because he was just so stubborn!

Gah!

I won’t tell more about the book just that I absolutely ADORED all the chapters and scenes with Theo, Troy and all these friends coming together again. It was a treat seeing them years later, in their professional and family lives.

Have you read Kate’s books?

Thanks for reading!

  1. I’ve been meaning to start this companion series for month and haven’t got to it yet. (Too many books and too little time to read!) It doesn’t sound like Harper and Lance have an easy time of it but I’m excited to read their story!
