Synopsis

Do your own dishes
Knock before entering the bathroom
Never look up your roommate onlineThe Wheatons are infamous among the east coast elite for their lack of impulse control, except for their daughter Clara. She’s the consummate socialite: over-achieving, well-mannered, predictable. But every Wheaton has their weakness. When Clara’s childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too much to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.
After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive—not to mention handsome—for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the Internet…
Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realizes living with him might make her the Wheaton’s most scandalous story yet. His professional prowess inspires her to take tackling the stigma against female desire into her own hands. They may not agree on much, but Josh and Clara both believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll help everyone else get lucky too.
Audiobook review
4 to 4,5 stars
Reading it felt like watching a Hallmark movie with a porn star as hero!
What a delightful read.
I never planned to read that one but I kept seeing it popping up on my Instagram feed. I decided to listen to an audio sample and, seduced by the narrators, took a chance on it.
I was in from the very beginning!
The story is a classis trope but with some twists and a very good execution.
Clara comes from a very wealthy family and has always been a “walk the line” kind of girl.
Well mannered, contained and smart she has decided to listen to her childhood crush and come join him in Los Angeles. She is determined to finally make him fall in love with her.
Only, she is not at his house yet that he tells her he is leaving for a tour with his band and has sublet his room to someone he never met.
Clara is already defeated, thinking that her little bout of independence is already doomed.
Then she meets said roommate, Josh.
Huge, sun tanned, golden hair, sex on stick Josh. Who is wielding charm like a knight would wield his sword: with practice and deadly intent.
He tells her he is in the “entertainment” sector and it turns out that indeed, he entertains lots and lots of women with his prowess in bed, under a camera! Josh is a porn star with one million followers!
That’s when things get really interesting and funny.
Miss Priss with the porn star! That gave me tons of snickering to laugh out loud moments as these two could not be more different except for their common love of action movies and their big hearts.
Clara will try some “new things” under the watchful eye and caring guidance of Josh giving us some very raunchy scenes!
But this is not “only” a meet cute/hot story as Clara will spread her wings and finally dare to go for what she wants in a very unconventional way.
Both characters were what I am calling cinnamon roll characters. Both had golden hearts and the banter between them was priceless!
Clara’s “evolution” felt organic, not artificial or forced at all and it’s one of the best “coming of age” trope that I have read this year. One of the most unexpected and interesting too!
The sub plots with Clara reconciling with her estranged aunt and working for her PR company to help in a political campaign and her intent to help Josh finding his new career were just perfect to avoid a too smooth read that could have turned vanilla or sappy.
Listening to these amazing narrators (Brittany Pressley narrated Well Met and Well Played by Jen de Luca and Teddy Hamilton is behind From Lukov with Love and tons of other books) I realize that I can listen to romance but it seems romcom is my favorite genre in audio.
I don’t know if it’s this very anxiety inducing year but it seems that I can’t stand @ssholes anymore. Bye bye dark romances (at least for now), I need my heroes to be kind and considerate. Josh fits that description perfectly.
If you want something light, fun and raunchy with good banter, don’t look further.
Have you read that one yet?
Thanks for reading!
Your tag line though? Lolll
Adding it to my TBR list!!!!
Cinnamon roll characters… Love that!!! Sounds fun!!
It is Trisy! Promise!
I’m getting ready to start this book so I’m thrilled to hear you enjoyed it. Hallmark with a porn intrigues me all the more, lol.
I can’t wait for your thoughts Suzanne!
lol – agree with the Hallmark association. But unfortunately I couldn’t finish it. Maybe I was expecting something else/more, but for me the porn plot didn’t work.
Ha that’s too bad Corina! :-(((
I almost nosed my water. The most action you see in a Hallmark movie is that kiss that always comes at the end. But, this book did produce some great warm fuzzies for me.
Glad to know I made you laugh so hard that you nearly spilled the water Sam :-)))))))
You had me with “It was like watching a Hallmark movie with a porn star as the hero!” How can I possibly resist!
Me too! I saw porn star and that was it. I’m not ashamed to say that i have a thing for porn stars 🙂
Danielle that was just amazing with raunchy hot scenes but sweetness too 😉
Bwahaha right?
Oh this sounds fabulous!!!!
It is! But go for the audio Caro!
Another to add to my list!!!
Well, your title reeled me in, lol. This sounds fun 🙂
It is Jacquie! Honestly!
I love your description of this one as a Hallmark movie with a porn star because that really does wrap it up well. LOL This one was so light and fun (with some seriously hot sexytimes!). Glad to hear that the audio version was a hit, too!
Oh yes it was a hit thanks to the narrators Tanya!
