Immortal demigod Rosie Fox has been patrolling Tanria for decades, but lately, the job has been losing its luster. When Rosie dies (again) by electrocution (again) after poking around inside a portal choked with shadowy thorns only she can see, she feels stuck in the rut that is her unending life.

Thanks to Rosie’s meddling, the portal’s inventor, Dr. Adam Lee, must come in person to repair the damage. When all the portals begin to break down, he declares an emergency evacuation of Tanria. In the mad rush to get out, Rosie and Adam end up trapped inside the Mist. Together.

What a delightful read! This is the third book in a series of interconnected standalones and, if I’m not mistaken, the conclusion to the series.

This book is a perfect cozy romantasy, featuring lovable characters, unique world-building, a mission to accomplish, some angst but not too much, as it leans heavily on the cozy side, and a perfect ending.

In this third installment, we follow Rosie Fox, an immortal ranger in Tanria who stands well over six feet tall with striking red hair and eyes. Rosie is the child of a god who wouldn’t win the award for best dad. She adores silky, scrumptious underwear, her flashy yet stylish auto duck, and her colleague Penrose. Life would be perfect if she weren’t eternal…

When the portals in Tanria begin to fail, Rosie and Pen are tasked with escorting Adam Lee, a genius inventor and creator of portals. Adam Lee is pocket-sized compared to Rosie, but he has such lovely forearms, and his suits are always pressed and pristine. His stoicism and aloofness do unmentionable things to Rosie!

What would happen if they were trapped in Tanria, forced to spend time together while trying to solve the problem? And what if purple dragons were involved?

I loved this sweet, funny, and slightly bitter story! All the characters are endearing (except Rosie’s dad), and exploring their past traumas and fears made me fall even more for them. The love story builds slowly, even if you could already see its embers from the start. I loved that, for once, the male character was smaller and more vulnerable than the female character. That was a nice change, and astonishingly, these two made sense! More alike than it seemed. The banter was funny, their heart-to-hearts tender and endearing, and their mission challenging enough to keep the reader invested!

The cameos with past characters were the cherry on top!

Also, now I want a dragon named Eloise as well!
