Today Is Top 5 Tuesday organised by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm and as it happens often I’ve tweaked the topic!
The real topic is Top 5 books that intimidate me.
But honestly I’m not deterred by long books. It’s well known the longer the better. Rhoooo take your mind out of the gutter! 😀 I’m speaking about page number of course!
Complicated ones neither so I chose to feature books I’m proud to have read for one reason or another.
Once again Joe at JWMartin inspired some of my choices so thank you Joe!
Let’s begin with the fun
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet
Why am I proud to have read it? Because it was my first book in English! And let me tell you that a first read of 973 pages in a foreign language with words as swords, pillars, hammer or other words you don’t encounter in everyday conversation IS a high feat!
A Brief History of Time (see Joe!) and The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking
Why am I proud? Because I had to recall all my science learned in high school to understand these books. I confess I had to stop every 25 pages and ponder just to resume my read the day after. But they were worth it. Even the killer headache LOL
A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
I’m proud to have read them because they were harsh to read but also enlightening. Out of my favorite genre but eye opening.
The Shack by William Paul Young
Because once again it’s totally not my usual genre but it’s a book that makes you think. About God, about love about many things.
My Valentine by Jaimie Roberts
It’s my latest read and so far out of my comfort zone! It’s dark, sick and twisted. I wanted to stop at 30% and it’s only after having spoken with Jaimie, someone that I used to beta read and edit for, that I read it until the last word. A real challenge I assure you but so perfect if you are a fan of dark and twisted reads. A masterpiece of the genre!
Now I apologize once more for being so late to the party Shana!
What are some books that you are proud to have conquered?
Happy tuesday and thanks for reading!
