Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created and hosted by Shanah @bionicbookworm
Shanah is a VERY considerate person and being a mom she just knows that indeed everyone is struggling in June with the end of the school year, the beginning of holiday (in one month here) …. and decided to offer light and easy topics for our June meme.
Today’s topic is about colors on book covers. Precisely orange, red and yellow.
It made me realize that very few books wear the color yellow. Or mostly yellow. Or I’m not attracted to yellow covers at all maybe?
Never one to pass up the occasion to learn something I looked into the meaning and symbolism behind these covers.
Accordingly to http://www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html here are their significance.
Red is the color of fire and blood and is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determinationbut also passion, desire, and love (of course think about the Valentine’s red hearts). Red is a very emotionally intense color. It also brings texts and images to the foreground.
Β Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. It represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
Yellow is the color of sunshine. It’s associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy. Yellow produces a warming effect, arouses cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy.
Now time to dig in my library and see which books I can come up with! Then check if the insides matches the outside based on the colors meaning!
Red
Hero at the Fall! Not read yet but based on the other books in the trilogy I’d say strenght, determination and war are some recurring topics of this story!
An Exaltation of Larks is certainly about love and strenght!
Orange
Well not exatly happiness and sunshine for Blood and Sand! Rather fight and strenght and determination!
Again A Time of Dread with its orange color is rather a book about battles than happiness!
Yellow
The only book that I own with yellow colors is The Sun is Also a Star! As I haven’t read it yet I can’t say if it’s about happiness and joy… You tell me !
What are your favorite covers in red, orange and yellow?
Thanks for reading and happy Tuesday!
