Hi friends,
As I am in over my head with the Blogmas 2019 but still wanted to participate in the weekly Top 5 Tuesday organized by Shanah @bionicbookworm I decided to write an “appetizer sized” post!
Everyone know that I’m really chatty so I hope to have everyone falling off his chair writing such a short post 😀
So straight to the jugular today!
The Art of racing in the Rain by Garth Stein surprised me because …it’s written from a dog POV! How original (and a jewel, trust me).
Black Lies by Alessandra Torre because this book was totally smoke and mirrors! It had you completely fooled right from the start!
Honor Among Thieves by Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre: because there is a love/friendship story between a ship and a member of its crew! And it worked so perfectly! How odd and overload of feels!
The Reckless Oath We Made by Bryn Greenwood because this is the (d)alliance of a earthy and swearing contemporary woman with an Asperger knight of old! And that made sense and was pure genius!
The Dark of the Moon by ES Bell because this is a fantasy written by …Emma Scott! Other pen name and she just wowed me! She knows that I am still waiting for the sequel and am its fierce advocate!
Radiance by Grace Draven because the cover is totally misleading! This is the embodiment of “never judge a book by its cover”. Ugly cover for an extremely beautiful story!
And as we are talking about surprises, I wanted to speak about one author so versatile that she surprises me every time! Usually, mots authors stay in one “genre” or max two. Jewel E Ann can write upbeat romcom, dark and twisted romances, romance with a PNR feel, ugly cry complicated books…..
That’s it’ Short and to the point today! What are the books that surprised you?
Thanks for reading!
Sophie
100% need to read The Art of Racing in the Rain – any book from the POV of an animal and I am SOLD
It was just a fantastic read Rach!
Pretty cool list, Sophie! Honour Among Thieves is probably the one I’m most likely to pick up of all of these too hahah
Hahaha that does not really surprise me Lashaan!
SO SORRY for taking so long to add you to the list. I had some back pain that wouldn’t let up last night and I couldn’t move from the couch or focus on anything by pain. I got some pain meds from the doctor this afternoon and almost feel human. Once again, I’m so sorry!
And appetizer style?? I LOVE IT! You come up with such creative titles!
Don’t you dare worry Shanah!!!! You being in pain is much more important than adding my post to the list! I really hope you’ll feel better soon. You need rest!
That is quite a mix of work there. I am always impressed by authors who can genre jump successfully. Paula Stokes is one, who pops into my head.
Oooh I will go have a look at her books Sam!
A recent book that surprised me was Stay With Me. I didn’t think I’d love a book about marriage and the pressure to have children, but I did!
That seems a very interesting one AJ!!!
I’ve had Honor Among Thieves for months, but haven’t started it yet.
Teri I can’t wait for you to read it!
The Art of Racing in the Rain is such a great book!
Exactly Suzanne!
I am really intrigued to read The Art of Racing in the Rain! A dog’s perspective sounds really cool.
It is Lori I promise!!!
I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain!
This was such a beautiful and smart book Jacquie! Full of wisdom too!
