Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s theme is a free one! So I decided to go with ten authors I discovered this year and that became new favorites! 2020 has been kind of a hellish year but I have found new favorite authors!
Gotta find some light in the darkness right?😉

As I have a migraine since Sunday, I’ll keep it simple today with the book title and a favorite quote!

Here are my 10 new favorites and the book I’ve read:

🍂 Elizabeth Acevedo : With the Fire on High (contemorary YA);

“…you can’t control how people look at you, but you can control how far back you pull your shoulders and how high you lift your chin”
― Elizabeth Acevedo, With the Fire on High

🍂 Jen de Luca: Well Met (romcom);

“Ididn’t choose the wench life. The wench life chose me.”
― Jen DeLuca, Well Met

🍂 Beth O’Leary: The Switch + The Flatshare (woman fiction);

“These people. There’s such a fierceness to them, such a lovingness. When I got here, I thought their lives were small and silly, but I was wrong. They’re some of the biggest people I know.” The Switch by Beth O’Leary

🍂 Katherine Center: What You Wish For (woman fiction);

“You’ll never fix all your problems.” “Well, that’s encouraging.” “The point is to be happy anyway. As often as you can.”

🍂 Deborah Harkness: A Discovery of Witches (PNR);

“It begins with absence and desire.
It begins with blood and fear.
It begins with a discovery of witches.”

🍂 Taylor Jenkins Reid: Daisy Jones and the Six + The Seven Husbands of Evelyne Hugo (Historical fiction);

“Passion is…it’s fire. And fire is great, man. But we’re made of water. Water is how we keep living. Water is what we need to survive.”
― Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six

🍂 Jennifer Estep: Kill the Queen (Fantasy);

“The day of the royal massacre started out like any other.
With me doing something completely, utterly useless.”
― Jennifer Estep, Kill the Queen

🍂 Talia Hibbert: Take a Hint Dani Brown (Romcom);

“Because he knew her well enough to realize she’d rather be holed up in here like Gollum, stroking books and murmuring, “My precious.”
― Talia Hibbert, Take a Hint, Dani Brown

🍂 Emily Henry: Beach read (woman fiction);

“If you swapped out all my Jessicas for Johns, do you know what you’d get? Fiction. Just fiction. Ready and willing to be read by anyone, but somehow by being a woman who writes about women, I’ve eliminated half the Earth’s population from my potential readers, and you know what? I don’t feel ashamed of that. I feel pissed.”
― Emily Henry, Beach Read

🍂 Simone St James: The Sun Down Motel (horror)

“I took my glasses off and set them to the table… The world went pleasantly blurry, and I didn´t have to see the details anymore.”
― Simone St. James, The Sun Down Motel
.

All are recommendations from me to you! Have you read some of these? What new favorite author did you discover this hellish 2020 year?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  3. I’ve only read De Luca’s debut (obviously, since that’s all she’s published LOL) but I’m excited for her second book. And TJR is definitely one of my favorites. I’ve read 4-5 by her now and have loved them all.
