Hi friends,

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Today’s theme is : Top Ten New To Me Authors that I discovered in 2021.

I read about 45% new authors in 2021 on my 137 books!! That’s a lot! Narrowing it down to ten will be extremely difficult and I can’t promise I will stop at ten!

I got a huge crush on Laurie Forest and her series The Black Witch Chronicle!

Magic, diversity, romance, twists and turns, fantastical beings…

The Guncle was a little jewel! Funny, moving, smart, thoughtful...Steven Rowley impressed me!

My daughter pushed me to read Caraval for years! I resisted until 2021 and …I fell in love with Stephanie Garber‘s gorgeous and whimsical writing!

Lore & Lust was a recommendation from my friend Stephanie on Instagram. She told me it was a unique vampire story with gorgeous but sweet vampires. Added bonus, it was a MM romance! And she was right! Karla Nikole has a beautiful and sweet writing. Her characters bring me peace.

It’s been years since I wanted to read a John Gwynne‘s books. The publisher’s offer to read The Shadow of the Gods was the nudge I needed and I was smitten! The universe felt so real! I was there!

Jessica Anya Blau was a totally unexpected discovery! I was in the mood for an historical but not too far from our century and Mary Jane blew me away! It was the perfect blend of innocence and rock’n roll!

Iron Widow was the book I never expected to love as much as I did! Imaginative, provocative that blend of Chinese tradition and technological future enthralled me from the very first page! Xiran Jay Zhao is a new author to follow!

Jackaby is a blend of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who! Told from his assistant, Miss Abigail Rook’s POV, that series captured my attention and transported me in that historical fantasy. I read the whole series in just a few days! William Ritter was a fabulous discovery!

Finlay Donovan is Killing it had me laughing so hard! That book is extremely relatable if you are a mom. And the situation she has fallen into is surreal but so funny! Elle Cosimano has become one of my favorite authors!

Nowadays, Kerri Maniscalco is known for her Kingdom of the Cursed series but I very much prefer Stalking Jack the Ripper! That series was one of the first I read in 2021 and it was love at first sight! Thomas Cresswell and Audrey Rose Wadsworth are now my favorite OTP and their banter some of the bests!

And I must add three honorable mentions….

I confess that I nearly DNF Gild. But a friend of mine told me that it got better and…I devoured the whole three books in less than a week! Raven Kennedy was a sensation on bookstagram!

Another very hyped book that indeed deserved the attention was The Love Hypothesis! Fresh, cute and smart! Olive and Adam were perfect together. Geniuses but also clumsy. Adorable! Ali Hazelwood did good!

Crave is a sinful addiction! I swear these books are filled with clichés but they work so well that you can’t help reading them at lighting speed! Tracy Wolff is another favorite author now.

That’s it! Sorry for the bonuses 😉

Thanks for reading!

Sophie
