Hi friends,
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Today’s theme is new to me authors that I read in 2020
My taste has shifted drastically last year. I blame it on bookstagram and all the book clubs I am part of. Or maybe it’s the lockdown or just plain aging. Or I have read too much of the same genre and authors in the years before?
Whatever the reason, when I looked back at my 2020 reads, I noticed that I had read so many new to me authors that I had a hard time narrowing it down to ten!
Here are some of my new favorites.
Naomi Novik through A Deadly Education
Kerri Maniscalco with Kingdom of the Wicked
Kristin Hannah with The Nightingale
Beth O’Leary with The Switch followed by The Flatshare
Taylor Jenkins Reid with Daisy Jones and the Six and then The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo
Katherine Center and her What You Wish for and then What You’d Save in a Fire
Alexis Hall with Boyfriend Material
Casey Mc Quiston and her Red, White & Royal Blue
Holly Jackson with A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and Good Girl Bad Blood
Deborah Harkness with A Discovery of Witches trilogy
and many other!
What are some of your new to you authors?
Thanks for reading!
Sophie
I really need to read something by Kristin Hannah at some point
Casey McQuiston is an author I am looking forward to reading more of. I loved Red, White & Royal Blue! 🙂
Alexis Hall made my list to and I already knew but LOVE Beth O’Leary and Taylor Jenkins Reid. In 2021 I hope to finally try the Deborah Harkness books.
I love seeing Taylor Jenkins Reid and Kristin Hannah included in your list! I’ve read 4 or 5 by TJR and all have been huge hits. And Kristin Hannah is a longtime favorite. I think I’ve read everything she’s written but one!
How many amazing books!! I have read The Flat Share this year and really really enjoyed it, too, so this is a new author in common!
And I loved Deadly Education, it was surprising! I have read some other books by this author and, even if I enjoyed them, I didn’t love them. But this one was different!!
I only discovered Sarah J Maas last year!
My list is so similar! I loved Alexis Hall, Kristin Hannah, and Holly Jackson soooo much!
So many great authors on here! Naomi Novik is one that I hope to discover someday just to see what her writing style is like. Great post, Sophie! 🙂
Thank you Lashaan!
I still need to discover Casey Mc Quiston! Last year I read a book by Olivia Wildenstein and was obsessed, I need to devour her backlist this year.
Olivia has some great books!
Wow, that’s quite the eclectic mix of reads there, Sophie. And the Deborah Harkness books look really interesting as well.
Alex I think you’d really love them! The writing is amazing!
You read so many great authors last year!
True! 🙂
A Deadly Education is one of the books I would like to read: my experience with Novik is limited to the first volume of her Temeraire series, and the one you listed sounds like a very engaging read 🙂
I hope you’ll get to read it Maddalena!
I’m so glad you discovered Naomi Novik! She has lots of great books, I love her first book of Temeraire and also Uprooted if you’re looking for more!
I already got S^pinning Silver as I want to read more!
Looks like you discovered lots of great new authors this year. I see several of my favorites up there like Taylor Jenkins Reid and Katherine Center. 🙂
Yes I did Suzanne!
Some great ones here! And long may it continue!
I really love a lot of these. I love Boyfriend Material and Red, White and Royal Blue. I also really enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six. I’ll have to add the rest of the books on here to my tbr list.
Center and Jackson are two authors I was happy to discover in the past. Absolutely adore them both! I have only read the one book from Hannah, but there are others I want to read. Nice mix of genres up there.
Thank you Sam!
You have some good ones, Sophie! I have A Deadly Education and Boyfriend Material waiting on my Kindle.
Both amazing Teri!
