Today is Sunday time to look back in the rearview mirror and talk about my week . I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted for years by Kimberly@caffeinatedreviewer .

This week has been a sad one as my dog of nearly sixteen years became blind overnight.
She had a poor eyesight already but it happened all of a sudden. On Wednesday morning we realized that she was totally blind. She has already become deaf so she was really struggling to find her barings!
She was jumpy when we came close to guide her, didn’t want to go into the garden, nothing!
I added some tuna to her food to help her smell where her food was.
We didn’t know what to do and what decision to make.
My vet believed it was a problem with her brain (probably a stroke) and gave me some medicine to help the oxygen flow in the brain.
Now she seems to have memorised the ways, the home and even the garden. Her tail is wagging when I come home, she doesn’t jump when we pet or guide her …she seems to be settling.
We will keep monitoring her behavior.
If she shows signs of distress or apathy then we will have to end her life out of kindness, even if it will break us!
I walked her yesterday, guiding her with one foot on either or her side and keeping a constant tension on the leash for her to feel that I was always close by. It worked and she walked, sniffed and all. Success!
With all that happening I sadly had no time to reply to comments or blog hop…

My heart is breaking because what you described sounds like what we went through with our last dog. She was also very old, with her hearing and eyesight going. Ultimately we had to say good bye to her because she was also living with a degenerative heart condition that could make her heart fail anytime. It was hard but we knew it was the right thing to do, and you will know when the time comes what is best.
My heart breaks over your dog! I’m happy to hear she’s settling into her condition, but still! I hope she gets better!
Oh my word – how very upsetting for everyone. But so glad to hear your dog is coping. I’ve heard of the same thing happening to adults, but not to dogs… I hope the coming week is a kinder one, Sophie.
So sorry to hear about your furbaby, Sophie, but I’m happy she seems to be adjusting.
Oh I’m glad your dog seems to be settling. I was worried about her! A wagging tail is always a good sign!
Ah no im so sorry for your dog.. atleast she seems to be getting better. I imagine it must’ve felt so confusing- as she was relaying on her eyes as she was deaf and then boom you wake up to nothing.
On my end we’ve been dealing with a random splur of allergy on Sheik’s part.. i thought I tracked it down to a sample of food I mixed in, but she also has seasonal allergies and just got 4 vaccines so who knows.
I am so sorry and hope you get a little more time with her. We waited too long with our first and realized we were selfish. With the second and third, we led them over the rainbow bridge sooner.. out of kindness, which is a really good way to look at it. Hugs.
This happened to our miniature poodle at some point. She made it to 18 but those last few years were hard to watch her sometimes.

Poor pup. Sixteen years is a long life for a dog. It’s great she could adapt so quickly.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I’ve got two older dogs and with some health issues lately I’ve had to think about what to do in a situation where I can’t afford extremely expensive surgery. So I can totally understand how stressful that is. I am glad to hear that she is figuring some things out, because as long as they’re eating and seem to be doing okay, it isn’t that decision time yet. Keeping you in my thoughts for this!
