Apocalypse, witches, and the fiercest sisterhood you’ll ever meet.

Synopsis

The Coven is reunited but broken…

Niamh is back from the dead … but she hasn’t come back alone. Elle mourns a son she never had. Ciara languishes in a prison for witches. And Leonie reels from a very unexpected surprise.

Five very different witches with one thing in common: they were unwittingly chosen by the dangerously charming Lucifer, the demon king of desire, to fulfil a dark prophecy.

But Lucifer has deadly offer for fledgling witch Theo: help him and her coven – her family – will be spared as the rest of humanity perishes in a hellish new reality. Save the ones she loves? Or save the world? The choice is hers…

Audiobook review

4,5 stars

Narrator: Aoife McMahon → absolutely flawless! She nailed every accent and gave real depth to the characters.

This final installment of Juno Dawson’s HMRC witches trilogy is nothing short of epic. The end is here: Leviathan is rising, and it’s up to Leonie, Niamh, Elle, and Ciara to stop the apocalypse. Meanwhile, Theo stands at the heart of it all — torn between temptation, sacrifice, and her own long-awaited happiness.

What you’ll find here:
-Battles on a grand scale — apocalyptic stakes, temptation, love, sacrifice, and redemption.
-A diverse, messy, powerful sisterhood of witches who’ve lost, grown, and fought for each other.
-Representation that hits hard: queer love, trans identity, motherhood, second chances, and resilience.
-Fierce feminism at its core — women are strong, messy, beautiful, and unstoppable when united.

The huge strength of this trilogy is the characters and their complicated relationship.

The Witches

Niamh – She has lost more than anyone: her parents, her fiancée, her boyfriend, her sister, her closest friend. Yet she endures, still protecting Theo with a quiet fierceness. Chosen as High Priestess — a role she never sought — she embodies reluctant strength and unwavering loyalty.

Leonie – A badass lesbian and a force of nature. Reckless, brilliant, and powerful, Leonie forged her own coven and owns her place in this fight. She’s bold, unapologetic, and crucial to this finale, even if her twist took me by surprise.

Elle – Once deceived by Lucifer, betrayed by her husband, and haunted by denial of her witch self, Elle finally steps into her true power. She’s not just a witch — she’s an incredible mother to teenage Holly (who has her own surprises). In this finale, Elle rises, fierce and radiant, to stand by her sisters and face the darkness.

Ciara – The witch with a checkered past. She’s made terrible choices, left destruction in her wake, but now she’s ready to own her mistakes. What I loved most: her craving for a second chance and her deep love for her sister, Niamh. Strong-willed, sharp-tongued, and determined, Ciara storms back into the fight with fire.

Theo – Sweet, gentle Theo, finally the girl she was always meant to be thanks to Niamh’s help. She has faced cruelty her whole life, and I just wanted to hug her tight. More than anyone, Theo deserves a happy ending — and her fate had me on edge the entire time.

Why I loved it

Each witch had such a distinct voice that I couldn’t help rooting for all of them — flawed, messy, powerful, and human. Their bond, though complicated, is unbreakable, and that’s the soul of the series.

Yes, time travel isn’t my favorite plot device, and yes, Juno Dawson’s last-minute “wild card” was a stretch. But honestly? None of that stopped me from loving this book.

This trilogy is bold, inclusive, and unforgettable. More than magic and battles, it’s about women being powerful, beautiful, and unstoppable in all their messy, diverse forms. And that’s a message worth shouting about.

You don’t need to conform to norms and standards. You are beautiful in your own way: black or white, hetero or lesbian, woman or intersex, loudmouthed or discreet. You do you. Unabashedly and always. And if you have each others’ back you become formidable and impossible to ignore and push down.

Thanks for reading!
