Synopsis
Life as I knew it ended the day I accepted my fate.
In its place is an existence even the wildest imagination could never fathom. Strange creatures walk among us, plotting our demise, and I’ve come to find that the fate of our world rests squarely on my shoulders. We’re all in danger and I’m trying to figure out how to make it through each day.
The key to my survival is a man I can’t figure out. As dangerous as the darkest fae, I have no choice but to work with him to stop the prophecy that’s foretold to be the ruination of mankind.
Carrick Byrne continues to be my only source of information, but he doles it out as he sees fit. He intrigues and scares me in equal measure, yet I can’t help but be attracted to him. And the more I discover about him, the more it becomes clear he feels the same.
As we travel to Faere in search of answers, we find that every piece of information leads to more questions, that every question leads to a new piece of the puzzle, and that, most importantly, no one can be trusted.
The more secrets we uncover, one thing is certain— if we have any chance of saving the world, we have to do it together.
A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is book two of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.Â
Review
4 solid stars
I will try to keep this as spoiler free as I can but if you haven’t read The Revelation of Ligh and Dark, I can’t promise not to let something slip!
First, I read this book in one sitting, which is always a good sign!
That’s mainly because things are happening non stop to keep you enthralled but also…guessing!
While reading this I had a gazillion questions and theories twirling in my head.
What is Carrick?
And when we learned what he was I still had more question about how he was.
What is Fenley?
We still don’t know. Something happened to her and she has something special, more than her seeing past the glamour I mean but we still don’t know what she is. Is she still totally human?
What happened to Fallon?
And when we learn more about it, it brings new questions and a new quest.
What is the prophecy about?
We still don’t know by the end of the book by the way AND we are left on a huge cliffy where Finley’s life might stop!
As you can see, Sawyer is building a whole story meant to keep us on our toes!
Â
And I didn’t even mention the world building when we visited Faere that looks like a visit of the Hunger Games! Let’s say the queen has very special tastes and the clothes are totally crazy. Oh, and they hate humans too so Finley’s visit had a permanent tension as you didn’t know if she would escape unscathed, even with Carrick as a protector!
Parallel to the “hunting for answers about doomsday prophecy” we have the undeniable attraction between Carrick and Finley giving me very hot vibes. Halas, based on what was said, I doubt these two will have their HEA but hey, who knows, maybe Sawyer has other tricks in her hat?
Should you read this?
Yes, if you love adult fantasy books, easy to read, filled with gorgeous males (always a perk if you ask me), courageous heroines the threat of the end of the world and non-stop action.
