Merry Christmas friends!

And for those who don’t celebrate Christmas, I still wish you a happy day!

Today in our #BestReadsOf2020 we are choosing our best out of comfort zone read.

Horror is a genre way out of my comfort zone and yet I have read The Diviners by Libba Bray and Mexican Gothic by Sylvia Garcia Moreno this year!

But my winner is… 🎅🏻

The Sun Down Motel by Simone St James

This was totally an “Instagram and the hype made me buy it” kind of read. I was hesitant as people talked of ghosts and I am a scaredy cat, not into horror at all but after The Diviners by Libba Bray, also with horror element, I gave it a chance and … I am so happy! Everything was honed to perfection in this book. The atmosphere, oppressive, haunted, mysterious with the tension growing along Viv’s obsession to discover the truth. The character really well fleshed out, main and side characters. The setting and the place, between the seventies/eighties and our modern world.

By the way, have your read other books by her and are they as good as this one?

What was your out of comfort zone read this year?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie
