Hi friends,
This is already day 17 of our Best Reads of 2020 and today we are choosing our best contemporary (or romance) read in 2020!
One of my favorites this year is Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid!
Would have I read this very hyped book if I hadn’t been pushed? No.
When I read it was about a band and there would be drugs and excess, I was not interested. Drugs are one of my triggers in books due to a friend plunging in that hell when I was a teenager.
But one of my friends, Daisy @DGBookBlog made a bargain with me: I would read “her” book and she would read one of my YA fantasy, Six of Crows. Each of us going outside of our comfort zone.
As Kaz Brekker would say “the deal is the deal”.
Even with this, would have I finished the book if it had been a physical book that I read? No.
I am pretty sure I would have lost interest due to the special “format” with multiple POV and interviews.
But listening to that story was …fabulous! I chose to listen to that book and I was BLOWN AWAY! The cast was incredible and I was convinced they were a real band and looked after their music, just to realize they never existed!!! And what’s even better is that my friend loved Six of Crows so much that she read Crooked Kingdom and I read The Seven Husband of Evelyn Hugo 🙃
And you what’s been your favorite contemporary read in 2020?
Thanks for reading!
Sophie
I’ve heard some really mixed opinions about this book, some people adore it and some really hate it lol
I might try this on audio, Sophie. I did try reading it but you’re right, the format threw me off!
I LOVE the audiobook, after finishing it I was devastated and I swear I wouldn’t read it again like ever, but I loved it It makes you feel all the feelings and the voice cast is brilliant ✨
Daisy Jones & The Six was definitely one of my favorites of the year! TJR made it easy to get sucked right in to Daisy’s world and the rest of the band. I thought about Daisy and Billy for a long time after finishing the book.
Best audiobook – it’s hard to top the performances by the cast. And I don’t think there is another one like it.

That’s so amazing you pushed each other outside of your comfort zones and you ended up loving it so much! Fabulous choice!
This is one of my favorites so I’m thrilled to hear you loved it too. 🙂
Isn’t it great how doing those buddy reads just end up in the type of success you never can imagine? I love seeing you discover a book that worked out so well for you both. Oh the joys of being a reader 🙂
I’m going to have to give this one a try!
Happy holidays, Sophie <3
