For months now I entered what my friend Joe@Storey of Stories imagined as brand new meme called “First Impression”.

It’s a meme where you talk about a book that you JUST STARTED! Maybe you’re only two sentences in the book, a chapter or two , maybe a little farther.  The goal is to  give a few impressions and predict what you’ll think by the end.  It will be fun to go back to this post once you’ll have finished the book! Did you think you’d love it and ended up hating it? Or did you think you’d hate it and wound up loving it? Or were you right all along?

Sorry for posting one day late but my life is really hectic these days and will stay like that for a long time. More informations on The Sunday Post tomorrow. And yesterday evening I wnet to watch The Darkest Minds with my daughter! So no posting.

OK this week’s first impression is about LifeL1k3 by Jay Kristoff

I am really at the beginning of the story like 20 pages in the book! This will be my first Jay Kristoff but I know many bloggers friends are huge fans (Shanah and Wendy are the firsts to rave about him!). What pushed me to read this book was YALC as the book was sold for 3 GBP *peanuts!* and I loved the UK cover so much more than the US cover! This week Kim gave it an extremely high rating telling us it was her favorite by Jay Kristoff. It was the last straw LOL

What are my first impression?

Honestly I struggled the first 10 pages as I am SO NOT into sci-fi *sorry Joe I know you love sci fi*. Now that I read some more pages I am in the book and strangely enough keep seeing some of my son’s anime about intergalactic stories *even if it does not happen in space, I know I know*. It’s Jay Kristoff’s writing and use of lingo or rather this story’s lingo or slang. His depiction of the enhanced people, the robots etc.

My prediction? 4 stars so far.

About last week…. I read Us Against You by Fredrik Backman. I predicted between 3,5 stars and 5 stars depending on how the action will really kick in! I think the author is just setting the scene and once it will be set we will really go to the heart of the book!

My review is written but still need some fine tuning and quotes but it’s been a 4,5 stars!

That’s it for today!

What are your first impression?

Thanks for reading!

Sophie

  1. Is it bad that I’ve never read Jay Kristof?! (Seems like a crime in the GR community lol 😉 ) Wonderful idea to have a FIF!! <3

  2. I’m still on the fence about picking up LifeL1k3 cause I love The Nevernight Chronicles, but really didn’t like Illuminae. I look forward to hearing what you think of it!
