Hi dear friends!

This Sunday Post will also be my monthly wrap-up for March!

In my private life this week

Last week I explained how one colleague has been fired well this week I got to recruit two new colleagues, one for each of my teams!

I am very excited as one of them is nearly fresh out from university and it will be a nice change for us “oldies”.

That also means that I will be extra busy as I will have to train them….

I was overworked this month and know that many hours will be lost, never compensated but … that’s the job!

Oh and I nearly made a fool of myself at work!

I was invited at a work event and was speaking for one hour with a woman being very unformal with her. She had been unformal and relaxed with me (in French we don’t have only “you” but we have kind of “thee”, you being unformal “tu” (for friends and family) and “thee” being formal “vous” (for hierarchy, strangers etc.)). Well I used the “you” (as in “tu”) with her for one hour, telling her that the steering committee should give more means and invest more if they wanted to keep the risks under control and that “as long as the example won’t come from the top it won’t work”. She totally agreed with me and by the end of our conversation asked me “to call her if I had problems with the front”.

That’s about by that time that I realized that I had been “à tu et à toi” (read very familiar) with one of the members of the steering committee!!!!!

Just slap me already! Where is the nearest rock that I can hide under?????

Well I am not fired so I guess she got my “unfiltered opinion” and appreciated the honesty LOL

Tomorrow my mom will visit us as her birthday is April 1st (yes yes April’s fool) and we will prepare our travel for RARE Paris next weekend!

Yup next weekend you won’t have a Sunday Post as I will still be in Paris meeting authors and playing author assistant for Scarlett Cole 😀

I hope I won’t mess it!

On the blog this month (click on the graphic to read the post)

I have read sixteen books and reviewed fifteen of them!!!!

This is kind of a record for me! It has not happened since I began blogging two years ago!

Here you are, from worst to bests.

Becoming his Monster by Amelia Hutchins: 2 unforgiving stars!

Fall Back Skyward by Autumn Grey: 3 “it’s not you it’s me” stars

I’ll Be Seeing You by Beth Rinyu: another case of “it’s not you it’s me”! 3,5 stars

One that I expected so much but that fell flat ...yet from one of my favorites YA author: Rayne and Delilah’s Midnite Matinee by Jeff Zentner. 4 “weirdo” stars

.

Cupid and Psyche’s story! 4 stars for Soul in Darkness by Wendy Higgins

If there Is No Tomorrow by Jennifer L Armentrout was 4 “not my favorite” stars.

You’d Be Mine by Erin Hahn : 4 stars for that cute story

Now we get to the nitty gritty, some books that I more than liked reading!

In Another Life by CC Hunter was a 4,5 stars for me. I still have to find one of her books that I did not like!

Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan was “only” a four stars but it left a lasting impression! This is a unique world and everything is in shades of grey. Kind of like a gothic tale! I can’t wait to read the sequel!

The Quiet You Carry by Nikky Barthelmess was a resounding 4,5 stars and a very good YA story broaching sensitive topics like abuse. A recommendation!

Naked Love by Jewel E Ann was the definition of outstanding romcom! 4,5 “nearly peed my pants while laughing” stars!

.

And now ladies and gents, my favorites of the month! They will be on my “bests of 2019” list!

A List of Cages by Robin Roe was …soul destroying and exceptional. 5 stars! I read it after having seen all the excellent reviews on many blogs for months!

Covet by Ella James was …impressive! Complicated. Touching. Triggering. Filled with secrets. 4,5 stars.

Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark T Sullivan got …all the stars! It was an audiobook and the narrator was spectacular!

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys is responsible for my current book slump! It was extraordinary! The first audiobook with four narrators for me and they were all excellent! 6 stars.

The book that I read for the #UltimateReadingChallenge this month was Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian!

The review is not published yet as it was a buddy read with my friend Angy and she has been so busy that she is not finished yet!

.

That’s it for my reads!

Now this month was also my “discussion” month with a weekly topic every Thursday! I love reading your comments.

This week’s topic was about taboo and sensitive topics: should authors write about them and how?

And on Tuesday it was space opera as Shanah asked us about our top 5 books set in space (I broadened my range to books with aliens).

One quizz now as usual on our Sunday!

Epic Reads: Are These the Titles of Fleetwood Mac Songs or Sarah Dessen Books?

No blog hop this week as I was dead tired once coming home every day! I am linking up to The Sunday Post hosted by Kimberly @caffeinatedbookreviewer

Now do tell me how was your month!

Thanks for reading.

Sophie

  1. Hope you enjoy RARE! I’ll be avoiding social media in case I actually expire from envy, lol.
The box of shame gif had me in stitches! Oh dear… As you said, she must have valued your opinion! We’ve all done it at some point too.

  2. Wow Sophie, a busy month for you. I wonder about your oops moment, I don’t believe in coincidences… maybe she needed to hear your opinion? RARE in Paris. It has been years since I visited Paris. So excited for you! Happy B day to your mom. ❤️

  3. Great wrap up, Sophie! I’m sorry for your embarrassing awkward moment but I was actually laughing while reading your post.XD I’m glad she appreciated the honesty. I’m looking forward to read Wicked Saints, and Naked Love this month!
Hope you have an amazing April! 🙂

  4. I cringed for you while reading the embarrassing work moment. But it sounds like the woman wasn’t offended so no harm done. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear all about RARE Paris… and hopefully see some pics. Color me jealous! 🙂

  5. Whoa!! You did have a busy month! I am disappointed to hear that you didn’t enjoy Rayne and Delilah’s Midnite Matinee as much as you had hoped for. I am highly anticipating it. Although, I can see how it might go a bit strange. I hope that April is just as amazing for you! 🙂

  6. Happy happy birthday to your mom!! <3 And yay for an upcoming trip to Paris, always exciting to have something like that to look forward to. And I'm glad everything ended up well at work, too, I would have felt so nervously awkward at saying "tu" to one of my superiors hahaha.
    I hope you'll have a lovely April 🙂

  7. Amazing wrap up, Sophie! Sorry to hear about your little mishap at work, but it seemed to turn out fine in the end hahaha <3
My month was sooo much lazier than yours and I read very little. Mostly just ARCs I had in a pile. No blog hopping either! But I hope to do more this week 🙂

  8. Have fun at RARE Paris- sounds like fun! And happy birthday to your mom!!

Also, 16 books read is fabulous.

And yay more quizzes keep em coming lol!!!!!

    1. She did appreciate the honesty AJ! She thanked me and told me it was great meeting someone so enthusiastic and invested!

  9. Hey hope you’re mum has a lovely birthday, Sophie, and hope you both enjoy your trip to Paris to celebrate too. How I wish I could meet you there. Enjoy the writer’s gig, and don’t worry to much about your slip up at work, I think we all do that at least once or twice and manage to survive!

    Bonne journée mon amie!

  10. It’s kind of nice they trust you with training the newbies. It would be nicer if you were compensated, but still nice. Have an amazing time in Paris and I cannot wait to hear about the event.

  11. Sometimes those “oops” moments are great because you actually get someone in a position of power to HEAR. Glad it all worked out!
I hope you have so much fun with Scarlett Cole. Her book, The Strongest Steel, is probably my favorite book. Such an amazing story!! (Actually, that entire series is just so good)

      1. I just saw. That’s not the issue ai have with your posts. I can’t open them at all. They don’t take me to the blog post. I only see the first couple of lines but it doesn’t let me click anywhere that takes me to the full post. I know that it works with mine like that though. Damn.

  12. My month was steeped in Dr. Appointments and reading. I didn’t blog much as you know. I reached out to my parents after three months of not talking to them from my nervous breakdown a few months ago. I am anxious to move but scared.

  13. Lol, the hazards of language etiquette! I remember there being rules with “you” in French when I tried to learn a bit of the language each time I visited. There’s a series I love (Amour et Chocolat by Laura Florand) that has a lot of French in it and so I’d do a lot of Google translate to figure it out. I would love to learn the language someday, but you have to use a language frequently to keep it and make it worth it.

Have fun in Paris with your mom! I love Paris and bonus you get to hang with Scarlett Cole! I just started reading her books last year and I love her writing! 🙂

    1. Oh Rachel I often think it must be a nightmare for strangers to learn French! We have nearly more exceptions than rules LOL
