Book Blurb:

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angelsβ€”things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.

No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear…

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

The Revelation of Light and Dark is book one of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

Review

4,5 stars

This is not your usual Sawyer Bennett as she has gone all fantasy on us!

Take a very hot billionaire Carrick Byrne, mysterious and hating our heroine Finley on the spot, without us knowing why, even at the end of that first installment. He may or probably not be human but we still don’t know what he is exactly. I have an inkling but…

Add a gorgeous woman, Finley who has seen β€œthings” since her childhood, to the point of being heavily medicated and interned. She has dropped out of college and has found her calling in managing a quaint coffee shop in Seattle, to the utter despair of her very sleek, polished and accomplished twin sister Fallon.

Finley has learned to ignore the β€œthings β€œ she is seeing and pretends that she is way better and leads a normal life in jeans, boots and flannel shirts.

Until one night, at her sister’s invitation she meets Carrick Byrne and …her world will turn on its axis.

She learns that she is not mad but has a unique ability to see Daemon and Fae.

This first installment in a brand-new fantasy series reads itself.

The relationship between Carrick and Finley is tense, you understand right from the start that Carrick has a deep aversion for Finley but you have no idea why.

You won’t know the reason by the end of the book either.

There is attraction underneath but you won’t have any sexual move …yet.

All along I was wondering what Finley was and I don’t know it now either. All you know is that she will play a key role in a prophecy because, of course, there is a prophecy duh!

Aaaaand you are left on a big cliffy that will make you NEED the sequel.

If you are looking for an adult fantasy with a good world building, a whole lore of magic creatures, budding attraction and a prophecy to fulfill, look no further.

Oh, and if this was not enough to decide, there is talk of a training academy in a magic realm to train dark fae and demon hunters! How cool is that right?

  1. I always find it so interesting when authors branch out from their usual genres and try something new! And it sounds like this author did such a good job with an extensive and captivating adult fantasy novel πŸ˜€
