Hi dear friends!
First things first: I apologize again for not blogging much this week but I’ve been through what was maybe the most tiring work week in my life so far! It was very interesting and productive but I went home beat on my feet and could only shower, eat and sleep!
But today is Friday!!!!!
So yes I am posting my I Heart Character one day late, sorry Dani!
I Heart Characters! is a weekly meme hosted by Dani @ Perspective of a Writer to showcase our book blogger lover for characters! Each week she’ll supply a topic and you’ll supply the character. Post on whatever day suits you, about characters from whatever media you love (books, movies, K-dramas, television, manga, anime, webtoons, whatever!) and link up on Thursday so YOU and others can blog hop and share the character love.
Today’s topic is A Redo Character (Use or reuse a prompt from the past…) and I chose to use my first prompt: A Warrior Woman because:
1) I love warrior women (I am all for Girl Power and co);
2) I have just finished a book with a badass heroine and will come up with someone I won’t already have raved about before (keeping it fresh and all that jazz).
I have to thank Norrie @readingundertheblankie, Alexandra @alexandrawolfe and Shanah @bionicbookworm for this character because they got me hooked on science fiction!
Science fiction is usually not my “thing” (dystopian aside) but after reading all their very convincing posts and review I gave it a first try months ago with Lifel1k3 by Jay Kristoff and I loved it! By the way I ordered the first book from the Illuminae series!
I could not leave it at that of course, overachiever that I am, and ordered on Black Friday “Honor Among Thieves” by Rachel Caine and Ann Aguire. And yes I know I was on a book ban this month but …it was Black Friday and only one (not so) tiny book right?
Well I dove right in this week, took some time to read it because see above “most tiring work week of my life” and finished today!
Now I already want the second book of this amazing series. Expect a review by Monday max.
Honor Among Thieves has a badass heroine: Zara Cole!
Well who am I kidding? Even Bea went from scaredy cat to kickass by the end of the book.
But who is Zara Cole?
Zara Cole is human with a piece of alien DNA, the aliens being the Leviathans. She’s been slightly altered as a kid to help her eradicate atrocious migraines *I can relate as my daughter is fighting migraines for eleven years now*.
Zara is essentially a rule breaker. In this new world where humanity escaped destruction thanks to the Leviathans she is like a spot on a stainless shirt: unwanted.
What do you do with spots? You trye to eliminate them.
Well if Zara was not really killed she sure went to “rehab” countless time just to escape and enter “The Zone” that place outside of Paradise where misfits and rejects survive in stealing and scamming. She had to fight her way.
I won’t give many details but one day she’ll be chosen as an Honor, a human accompanying a Leviathan for one year and she will be absolutely amazing!
Unearthing secrets, kicking some crawling spider or lizard like viruses, helping her Leviathan friend heal going through his arteries, through goo etc. as he was hurt by a metorite…
She is a wizz kid messing with mechanics and assembling home made weapons.
She is used to fight to survive, to flee and outsmart her opponents.
Even big bad Leviathan elders don’t deter her from helping and protecting her friends.
Smart, courageous she also is deeply compassionate and extremely loyal.
I would want her having my back any time of the day!
“I understood why I’d been chosen. Why I’d been plucked out of the grim and struggle.
I’d always been at war.”
― Honor Among Thieves
I’m so glad you liked this book!! I was thinking about it just today…… weird. I’m honing in on your brain waves all the way across the ocean! And you got Illuminae!!?? You’re getting knee deep in science fiction now and you can blame me all you want!!!
This novel sure looks nice ! Specially as i’ve had gotten migraines since I was younger too; but you see.. this is the kind of book that’d do better as a movie than as a book for me. I can almost guarantee i’d fall off the track of the world building or something along the way in the story …
Well Kristina there is just enough world building to have you “see” or rather imagine it an dnot too much to drown you. So maybe you’d follow LOL But you are so right on the movie!!!!
I don’t think I could choose just one. There are so many awesome female warriors I’ve followed through a lot of different series. Happy to see you dipping your toes into Sci Fi! There are so many good books out there!
Oh yes Laura! And I hope your eye is better today!
Oh i am excited and nervous at the same time 😀 Just hope your journey into sci-fi territories will be enjoyable!
Zara sounds proper badass! I need to read this book 😀
Curious to see what you think of Illuminae as well!
Norrie I finished Honor Among Thieves and you just HAVE to read it!!! Bossy? Me? LOL
#GirlPower!!
Exactly!!!! 🙂
I’d choose Buffy as my warrior woman. Leviathans just remind me of Supernatural
Buffy is THE badass Jamsu!!! And I have never watched Supernatural (don’t throw rocks please) so I can’t say LOL
HHAHAHA YAY SOPHIE!! Sci-fi is a genre I can enjoy and I’m so happy to hear you fell in love with it. LifeL1k3 is certainly a great place to start. I actually just finished Honor Among Thieves a few months ago too!! Zara is the definition of Warrior Woman fighting even when she really doesn’t need too, lol. But she’s needed in the leviathan’s fight and I can’t wait for the next book in that series either. ♥️ And no problem posting on Friday!! We are all (yes, I’m speaking for everyone…) so happy that you felt rested enough to weigh in with a post!! 😀
Oh yes Dani I can’t wait to have the second book! Perk reading this one after everyone: I have only two months to wait before the next instalment!
I’m so glad you enjoyed Honor Among Thieves! That book was a very unique read and I also loved Zara Cole! I’ll look forward to hear your full thoughts on it! 🙂
Monday I promise! :-)))
Oh, look at you, Sophie, taking on the big bad genre, SF! Ha! Ha! And loving it too. And it’s easy to get into when there is so much great YA material out there just knocking it out of this world. Norrie and Shanah def got me into a few new authors too, like Jay Kristoff.
And Zara Cole def sounds bad ass! 😀
Hell yes I am a big bad SF fan now! And they hooked me on Jay Kristoff too 😉
